Carl's Steak Subs

"I live in the western part of the state and have been wanting to come here for years ever since I saw it featured on Phantom Gourmet. The women at the counter greeted us with a smile, took are order and we had subs on the table within minutes. I got a small steak and cheese which is easily a large anywhere else. The sub was loaded with steak, the roll was soft but sturdy enough to hold the mountain of steak. Definitely lived up to the hype BEST steak sub I've ever had. Can't wait to come back."

"Given the place has history and that the amount of toppings and size of the item is enough to feed an army however, i must say that taste wise, it is somewhat underwhelming. Perhaps for Waltham folks there is a nostalgia associated to the place but for $16 bucks, if i was to rate this outing, i would say it is pretty meh."

"Honestly one of the best steak & cheese around, & I accidentally just looked up on maps closest sub shop and it brought me here. It was a great find as most steak & cheese around Boston don’t taste that good or are as filling as carls, subs are a good size filled me up & was just tasty. Also got some tenders & fries both were not bad. Overall great spot for subs & will def. Be coming back"

"Steak and Cheese redefined. Sandwich total: $14 Open: year round Seating: none Parking: on-street Order: 1 'small' Carl's Special Pros: Ummm. I was so convinced I ordered a small, but they gave me a large I had to double check the price I paid. This isn't a 6" Subway, in size or flavor. Steak, SAUSAGE, mushrooms, peppers, onions, American, AND provolone cheese. I don't typically crave these sandwiches, but this is honestly a sub worth driving to. Will be back to try the other unique combinations they offer. Cons: If you get a large, you're going to have a hard time explaining why you're not sharing it with someone... Like a family of 4."
