Reviews of Berkshire Veterinary Hospital
"When Dr. Michael King was at Berkshire Vet, I felt safe bringing both of my dogs there. He was kind , compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. When Dr. King retired, I then began seeing Dr. Makuc who proved to be very knowledgeable, also. Then COVID hit, and I was forced to accept whatever vet was available for an appointment. Enter Doctors Wolfhart and Hussy into my pup Lochan’s life. Neither one seemed to have a clue. When Lochan became seriously ill, Dr. Hussy took weeks and several office visits attempting to diagnose her. Unfortunately for my pup, I was stupid enough to trust this poor excuse for a vet. She finally admitted to having no clue as to what was wrong with Lochan and referred us to Upstate Veterinary Specialties. Alas it was too late even though Dr. Scott of UVS tried mightily to save her, phoning me twice daily to update me on her progress. I visited every day and was heartened by the support for both my pup and me shown by the staff. When Lochan was euthanized, they allowed me to spend hours sitting with her in a room with a sofa and other amenities before I signaled for the vet to come in. After Lochan passed, I remained with her there for another two hours. In short, they allowed me to stay there and grieve for as long as I needed. No rush… just kindness. Since UVS is not a facility for ongoing care, I had to find another vet for my current puppy Jackie. Based on a friend’s recommendation, I brought Jack to Greylock Animal Hospital in North Adams. It’s a trek from where we live—but definitely worth it. Bottom line here: Stay away from Berkshire Vet. In emergencies, go to Upstate Veterinary Specialties. For ongoing care, go to Greylock Animal Hospital."
"Writing a negative review for a vet is never any easy thing do as this is an incredibly difficult line of work and here in the Berkshires we have limited vets. However, after multiple negative experiences here the last straw was them suggesting we put our 5 year old dog down when they were experiencing IVDD because it would be expensive. When the chance of a full recovery was 90% with surgery. They didn’t even want to help us find a facility that could treat our dog. Thankfully after calling around other vets helped us find a place that was able to treat our dog, who is already walking again."
"The worst experience I have ever had! If you want to be treated like a transaction this is the place for you. Not an ounce of professional or compassion from a single person who works in this office. My dog came in for a hematoma on his ear and they noticed a bump on his side. After a preliminary biopsy they said it should be removed. We were not happy with the lack of communication we received but we decided it would take too long to get a new vet so we gave them a second chance. They called to schedule the surgery right after Christmas. The day before surgery I called to ask if there’s anything I should know pre-op because they don’t explain anything to you. When I arrived I signed an estimate of the cost. I was called a few hours later because my dog threw up. I was told he was given anti nausea medication so expected an additional fee. I come to pick him up and the cost is an additional $160. The woman at the desk couldn’t really explain why. “It’s because he threw up, but the doctor will be in tomorrow if you would like to speak to her, and by the way you should go to petco to get a cone because we don’t have any” I called the next day “Dr Phelps doesn’t work Fridays but maybe she’ll be in” I call 3 hours later “oh yeah she’s here I just saw her” then it was “oh she was only here for a cat ultrasound”. There was a holiday so I waited until Thursday to call again and was told they would relay the message again. Well here we are 11 days and several calls later and I have not received a call from Dr. Phelps. My husband was handed a print out at the suture removal that my dog has cancer. No phone call. They got their money and now they won’t speak to me. I have never been treated so poorly."
"I’ve been with them since moving here in 2007. Dr. Maku and his wonderful staff were able to identify the reason for my Dogs illness, when two other Vets could not! I trust them with my Dogs and I’m always grateful to have them care for my dogs! They are priceless. Thank you."
