"Perfect place to stay in Portsmouth. The hotel is pretty, comfy, centrally located, the host was very nice and the check in / check out was smooth. Our room was quite comfortable as well! Would definitely come back!"
"Our stay was pleasant overall! The location is ideal for anybody who wants to go out and explore Portsmouth on foot. The digital key system was a little funky but luckily the front desk was able to provide us with physical key cards for our room. My boyfriend LOVED that there was water and coffee on tap in the common area."
"My family of four LOVED our stay at Ale House Inn. The location is fantastic. We were within walking distance to restaurants and all of the shopping areas. The king suite was spacious and offered modern amenities with a beautiful view. We enjoyed playing games in the quaint common area, and especially enjoyed the ice, water, tea, and various complimentary snacks. The Nitro coffee on tap seemed really cool, but my family doesn't drink coffee. Other guests were raving about it. The extremely friendly staff only made our experience that much more enjoyable. The pull out couch really needs an upgrade to the mattress, but that's our only critique."
"Although the location was fabulous and this was very walkable to most attractions I was disappointed in the amenities. The rooms were fine overall (clean, decent size, no real view but that's okay). This location operates more like an AirBnB than a hotel room- staff is not on site or available after 6pm and the only way to communicate is to call the emergency help line. If it had just been that no one was on site but they could be reached that would be fine but outside of their hours they are also not available via the phone line. The air conditioning is controlled in the hallway for the entire building therefore you cannot control the temperature in your own room (it was over 75 degrees in our room all night). For the price I paid I would have expected an experience similar to a hotel with access to staff in case anything came up. Had I known at booking no one would be on site I would have opted to pay a little bit more and stay at a traditional hotel."
"Ale House Inn is nice, clean and comfortable. Like others have mentioned, the lobby/common area is very welcoming and cozy. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location is great for exploring Portsmouth on foot. The inn is very close to the Piscataqua River and provides super easy access to many of the things downtown Portsmouth has to offer. There are two reasons I'm not giving them 5 stars: 1. the rooms are pretty small or at least the one we were in was tight and 2. they don't seem to be ADA compliant. When you arrive, the first thing you have to do is carry your bag up about 13 steps to get into the main entrance and then take an elevator up to the hotel. Wasn't a deal breaker for us (although my bag with 10 days of clothes in it was heavy), but I can see it being a problem for others."
