Reviews of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Emergency Room
"Absolute terrible service , my child who has a seizure disorder & potential c- diff was made to wait in the ER for 3 & half hours plus without even being properly triaged . she begin to have diarrhea thru the long wait due to the virus she’s had the past week and in turn she begin to get worked up & her fever returned . After 3 hours of waiting .. I asked how much longer the wait would be & for an approximate timeline .. as I’ve observed plenty of patents come in after one in which I knew personally with less servere circumstances… literally come & go and my child was still suffering in the ER … the Nurse on duty was unaccomidating & almost seemingly unwilling to engage .. as I waited for some kind of answer on when my severely sick child would be seen . I asked if it would be more then another 30 mins , he said he couldn’t promise but shouldn’t be . Well it was . After 45 mins of them calling more then 3 patients who arrived after us .. I reluctantly decided it best to take my fevering , baby who now was covered in feces home difficulty changing her in the nasty public restroom . I called our rideshare so I could take my child home to change her and give her medicine to help reduce fever and prevent seizure . We spent. 3 plus hours we can’t get back in the ER after already being across the street at the Berger building for 3 hours prior this was wayy less then pleasant This is the second poor experience in this particular ER but this is the first time it was so horribly handled that I felt it extreme enough to leave with not only an even sicker baby then I arrived with & she did infact have a seizure once we got home from her fever that arose& I informed them of her fever rising & frequent febrile seizures when I inquired on how much longer at hour 3 , the nurse did not call anyone , or even attempt to take her tempt or see if it was emanate danger of an impeding seizure. He did nothing more to meditate the situation or escalate to be sure she was good as I made clear her circumstances had worsened. Now my kid is home fevering still sick potentially has c-diff & I am skeptical to even return her to this terrible hospital because they haven’t even returned my phonecall. I called to speak with charge nurse after filing formal complaint at 2pm …. Then calling at 6:40 to speak to nurse at advice of her primary before I took her back and was told by Jennifer who did not reveal her title in The ER . I could not speak to any charge nurse and then she took my information and said a general nurse on duty would call back and it’s been an hour with out a returned call. And I called again and left another msg for callback at 8. This is negligence & unprofessionalism at its finest & feels like blatant disregard and disrespect. This is what prompted me to leave in the first place &CHOP is looking at a pretty decent lawsuit if we do go to another practice &something is severely wrong. . It’s Disappointing how women of color are treated in not only the medical system but with this hospital as a whole . This place wasted my time , cash to travel to and from , and gave my kid a trauma of being in an ER with feces on her . The poor treatment feels racially motivated , as caucasian kids who came in after us was pulled to the back one by one as they waltzed in &was accommodated given buckets but displaying no signs of eminent health dangers while my kids unraveled. This place is incompetent , and of all the amazing experiences we’ve had here , Today ultimately casted a shadow on them all and I will be contacting the PA board of insurance aswell to file a formal complaint because hospital management needs to do better on managing and transparency in the ER wait times, and order in which children are assessed . We got there at 12:15 and didn’t receive a text saying my child’s room was ready until 4:15 pm that’s 4 freaking hours for a child who had 2 seizures in past week, has a virus, and cold and caught fever while there … when she has a history of febrile seizures. 0/10 would not recommend. Shame on u all"
"My 5 year old son was seen in the ER for a 104 fever and cough. The doctor listened to his lungs and said “ we have 10 people in the waiting room with coughs, there’s nothing to treat it with” then discharges my son. No testing or anything was done. My son was just a number to them and “another kid with a cough” We went to another ER on the way home and they did a chest X-ray, Covid , flu and rsv test. My son tested positive for RSV and had an abnormal chest X-ray. I’m so disappointed in them considering how we should feel safe sending our children here."
"Absolute waste of time. When we checked in i said that we need teeth xrays because my son fell and hurt his teeth. 3hrs in the waiting room, then we got admitted and immediately were told that they don't have the right xray machine and dentist is only on call. The doctor who we saw was nice but whole organization is a fail. We left before getting discharge papers because it was taking too long. I later called my pediatric dentist after hours and they took us first thing in the morning to get necessary xrays and evaluation."
"My 6 year old son received prompt and compassionate medical care here. Providers gave instructions in a clear, kid friendly manner and addressed my questions and concerns as well. I recommend this emergency room."
"I visited the ER at about 3:00 AM. The waiting was never cleaned. I brought this concern to the front desk at approximately 5:02AM and again to the nurse on duty that was walking around with the wheeled computer. It is currently 6:12AM and the lobby has still not been touched. This is a health issue and very concerning especially in the environment we are living in with the multiple viruses in area. This is a nesting place and very unsanitary. I also have multiple pictures of the condition of the waiting area."
