About the Redden State Forest
Redden State Forest, located at 18074 Redden Forest Drive in Georgetown, Delaware, is the largest state forest in Delaware, spanning over 12,900 acres. Managed by the Forest Service, Redden State Forest is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering over 44 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, biking, and bird watching. The forest is primarily populated by loblolly pine, with stands of mixed hardwoods such as oaks, maple, and gum.
The southern regional office of the Forest Service is located at the Headquarters Tract on East Redden Road, where visitors can find a natural resource education facility, primitive camping sites, and a catch-and-release fishing pond. The historic Redden Lodge, renovated in 1996, is also available for public rental at a nominal cost, offering a complete kitchen and handicapped-accessible facilities. Weekend and weeknight reservations are available for overnight stays, but guests must bring their own sleeping bags or cots.
In addition to recreational activities, Redden State Forest is managed for timber production, wildlife habitat enhancement, forest management demonstration, and recreational opportunities. The forest is open to the public for activities such as hiking, horseback riding, and hunting during the appropriate seasons. Off-road vehicles, including electronic bicycles, are prohibited in all Delaware State Forests.

Reviews of Redden State Forest
"Great open space to explore. Trails are significant and easy to walk on."
"Great deep woods primitive camping experience. Lots of trails. No water or electric at site. Water is available a short walk up to the office; the porta potty is there as well."
"Camped here August 2023 in one of the new campsites which are quite nice. The sites are gravel pads with new grills, metal fire rings/pits, and picnic tables. Reasonably flat and plenty of room for two small or one large tent (though watch your distance from the fire pit...). Online reservations were easy. The new sites are well separated (moreso than the older ones) and the road to access them is good. One issue is that, while the campground map shows water and facilities, these haven't been built yet (empty lot - hence losing a star). So either prepare for that, or call ahead. There is a portapotty near HQ, but no obvious drinking water source after hours (we arrived after closing time, so we couldn't ask about this). Hiking and trails were generally good, and it's a good location to explore the area."
"Beautiful and peaceful place to camp. Sites were clean and there was plenty of space to set up a tent and also park vehicles. Fire pit with wooden benches, grill for cooking and a picnic table. Wood available for purchase was a few steps away. No showers. No bathroom. No electricity. More like camping. There is a port o potty that was a short walk as well as a water spigot on the outside of the office. Bugs and ticks were supposed to be bad. We were there 3 days and only saw a few daddy long legs and a few flies. Did not even need the bug spray we brought. Will surely return!"
