About the Peirce's Park
Peirce's Park, located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, is a historic tourist attraction that serves as the birthplace of Longwood Gardens. Founded by Pierre S. du Pont in 1906, this park features two magnificent tree-lined pathways and a stunning display of woodland wildflowers throughout the year. Visitors can admire the Sylvan Fountain, constructed in 1926, and explore the tranquil woods filled with geophytes, rhododendrons, and autumn-blooming crocus.
Renowned landscape architect Sir Peter Shepheard redesigned the paths in 1990, enhancing the connection to adjacent landscapes and emphasizing the scenic beauty of Peirce's Park. The park's rich history dates back to Quaker George Peirce's acquisition of the land in 1700, which eventually became a renowned collection of rare and exotic plant species under the stewardship of the Peirce family.
Today, Peirce's Park stands as a testament to the legacy of horticultural excellence established by the Peirce family and preserved by Pierre S. du Pont. Visitors can enjoy the beauty and history of this enchanting park from mid-April to mid-October, immersing themselves in a rich botanical heritage that continues to inspire and captivate guests from around the world.
Reviews of Peirce's Park
"Great area of Longwood with lots of old trees including the ones that he originally purchased the property to save."
"Love, love, love this area of Longwood! Quiet, lots of shade, expansive views of the Meadows. I saw eight hawks flying above the Meadows during a recent visit. Don't forget to check out the teeny baby Sequoia growing at the very start of the Park. With your back to Peirce's house, it's off to the left, just at the border with the Meadow.♥️ Come here when you're hot, tired and sick of hearing the bickering and yelling of stranger's children...."
"This is a forested area in Longwood Gardens, with many ferns of different varieties and great for people who love trees. It is shaded and great on a hot day to walk through. It's not super exciting though, so you can always walk on another path to see something more fun."
