"I’ve never seen a gym so happy to get rid of ppl before closing… ESP not one this expensive! I spent a month out of state recently the local pool cost $24. The limited hours, dirty pool/locker room & minimal amenities still made for a vastly better experience. The night staff, from front desk to lifeguards to others, are incredibly rude. I’ve been swimming at this time for 5 years, so I know when they close. I’ve never left even 1 min after closing. Despite this, pool staff stalks my workout, paces alongside my lane, staring conspicuously at the clock, putting the cleaning machine IN THE WATER NEXT TO ME, etc. It feels like they want to frustrate me into leaving; I pay $200+/mo for the privilege. For the hour before close, 6 WEIRDLY LONG announcements are made via loudspeaker. Each begins with a long, loud & high-pitched BEEEEP; staff then reads the following: “Good evening, Lifetime members & guests. The time is now 11 PM. Lifetime Fitness closes will close at 12am, which is 60 mins from now. If all patrons could have their workouts & showers completed before we close at 12, we’d gladly appreciate it. Please make sure to take all of your belongings with you when you leave at close. We’d like to thank you for working out at Lifetime Fitness. The club will reopen at 5am tomorrow morning for your convenience.” As an example, if they close at 12, this plays at 11, 1115, 1130, 1145… and then it really gets crazy! They read it again at 1150, 1155 & 12am. Even if u arrive more than 1 hr before close, the front desk person couldn’t look MORE annoyed. Sometimes, they reiterste the closing time, even if u joined 5 yrs ago, come at the same time every day & always leave before close. At first; they trusted u to manage ur time & leave by close (w/ the help of the announcements, of course). My swim was relaxing, the pool was a nightly solace & I recommended Lifetime to many. They started closing the pool 15 mins before close when summer ended. Pool staff enforced this with aggressive & startling tactics: if ur not out of the pool BEFORE the 15 min warning, they may grab ur leg, bend down to blow a long, loud whistle 2 ft from u, slap a buoy in the water, or just yell till u surface). The gym is supposed to relieve stress, but I’m MORE angry & tense when I leave these days, and it costs me $200 a month. I’ve been trying to stick it out because it used to be so nice, but it’s time to accept facts & find another pool. Last time I looked, most were too expensive, too far away, or both. I know some others have opened; LA fitness is nearby, there’s the Y, and even some community centers. There are prob other boutique fitness centers like Lifetime, with a less hostile staff who doesn’t interrupt ur workout with beeps & not-subtle reminders to GTFO. I just wanna use the facility I pay for during operating hours; this is not too much to ask, and Lifetime doesn’t have a premium on it… If you ask me, they don’t offer it at all. Until I find the right fit elsewhere, I’ll stick around; swimming is an important part of my life & they could make changes to staff or policies. However, I’m willing & happy to pay the same (or more) if staff hostility is minimal, startling & invasive workout interruptions are rare, and unwelcome, unexpected physical contact from staff DOES NOT HAPPEN. No customer should pay to be treated this way; the current services Lifetime offers swimmers are absolutely, unquestionably not worth $200/month."
"Guest policy has completely turned me off. My father was staying with me for 2 weeks and when I took him to the gym for just the second time during his stay they refused to admit him under their once every 60 days guest policy. I’m paying over $300 a month in my small family Lifetime dues and I can’t even bring an old man with me twice within a 60 day period? Insanity."
"Great facilities. The saunas always seem to be broken. This is more of personal preference but if there were more functional fitness items, like sandbags, that would make the experience even better."
"Great facility but major drawbacks. Overall experience has been great as a founding member, but club enhancements continue to be focused on minority of membership group while basic offerings and standards continue to decline while membership prices increase, 3X in last 6 months. Management provides canned responses to inquiries with empty apologies and no action. Heaters in Sauna and Yoga room are continually down. Pools are consistently closed for maintenance. Equipment breakdowns are handled in reactive manner rather than proactive. Requests for cold tub are met with response that no club reconfigurations are being considered, yet basketball courts were permanently converted to pickleball courts upon request. Teachers and trainers are amazing. they are what keep members like me staying. But I would change in a second if competing clubs in the area would simply change their opening hours to match LT (4am - other area clubs don't open until 7am on weekends). They are also a few popular instructor exits away from a mass exodus. They don't take private inquiries seriously so hopefully public ones will finally get their attention."
"I'm giving two stars because the childcare is exceptional. Children's membership is $50 a month with access to daily classes, parents night out events, and an indoor maze. It's a safe & fun environment and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The gym itself has a wide variety of equipment. However, for $200 a month the locker rooms are disgusting. I don't think it's ever cleaned. Each time I visit it's dirtier than the previous visit. The hot tub in the women's locker room is filthy and smells awful. The sauna is covered in black mold. I also use the Ardmore facility which is spotless and mold free. For the price of membership, the facility should be clean and sanitary. LA Fitness is cleaner than this."
