"I’ve been going to this location for close to a decade. Last night, my party was accosted inappropriately. When we first walked in, we were asked if we were 21 to which we confirmed. We even offered to show and we’re told that was not necessary. We were then FOLLOWED down the isle by a middle aged man who proceeded to ask for ID from two of my guests. I directly told him that I’ve never been accosted to this degree at this location in the 10 years I’ve been going and that it felt ridiculous. He said that they card everyone who walks in to avoid minors, which I knew to be false from my family coming here for decades. You would have thought I was speaking to John Hickman himself the way this older male employee responded to me telling me, “you don’t need to spend your money here.” I watched a presumed mother with her teenage daughter walk in and shop just fine and I asked the employees if they carded her, and they brushed it off saying they didn’t need to - although they NEEDED to card my party. I confirmed with the second employee if this man was the owner as I think his employer would have been disappointed to hear him say that I don’t need to spend my money there. The other employee then denied that he said we should spend our money elsewhere despite being 10 feet away from him when this was said, and I was asked to leave when I expressed my frustration over now being lied to by this employee. His coworker then proceeded to give a hard time to my remaining party when checking out, even asking person with a REAL ID if it was him. I believe this was all because we were wearing masks and as the only customers wearing them were harassed by this older man and his female coworker."

"Hickmans Liquors is a convenient, local shop that covers the basics well. Situated ideally for our vacation stay, it was easy to pop in for some essentials. However, if you're looking for higher-end labels, you might be disappointed. I was hoping to find a bottle of Cosmigos tequila, but no luck there. Nonetheless, the store served its purpose for our family vacation needs, offering a decent selection of the basics. If you're in the area and need to pick up some standard liquor or mixers, it's worth a visit."

"The best variety, people, beer and liquor variety, and prices in Delaware and Ocean City. I know, I have checked them all out. This is your place for beer, wine, and alcohol."

"This is a hidden gem next to my friends condo. I couldn't believe how vast a selection they had of high-end liquors. I even stumbled upon 2 bottles of Blanton's (hard to find bourbon). I'll definitely be revisiting on my next trip to Bethany. Updated (6/18/23): 5 years ago I gave this store 5 stars. Since then they have continued to raise their prices to obscene levels, even for Bethany Beach standards. 6 packs of craft beer are marked up ~30% and "harder to find" bourbon that they have multiple units of is 10x MSRP. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere."

"The sign says they close at 10, but I tried to stop in on my way home at 9:40 and they were closed. It's not the first time that's happened, either. I should have stopped in Rehoboth while I was there, prices are better anyway but I thought I had plenty of time and Hickman's is more convenient. If you can't do business late, then just change the sign and say you close at 9! I'll be going out of my way from now on so I don't go thirsty."
