"We have been vacationing in Bethany Beach each year for the last 7-8 years. And we have stayed in Bear Trap Dunes multiple times. This year, our rental home was very disappointing. When we first got to the townhome, there was a a moldy, damp smell in the lower level bedroom. The smell was so bad that my sister and her fiance were not able to sleep in that room. The maintenance person came to check it out and said it's "had that kind of smell for a long time, and that it actually smells better than it normally does." The smell was not corrected, and we couldn't use that room during our stay because of it. Our wi-fi was intermittent for the first couple days. Then on Monday, it was not working at all. We had 8 guests, all who were under the impression (per our contract) that we'd have Wi-Fi. That was not the case. A tech did come out to the house and fix it, so we were able to use Wi-Fi the last half of our stay. The mattress protector in the 3rd floor bedroom was noticeably dirty - two yellow spots that smelled of urine. We had to put it in the washer before we could put the sheets on to go to bed. The 3rd floor bedroom on the right has an extremely creaky floor, which we're assuming is the result of whatever water damage caused the 2nd floor warping of the floor and the 1st floor mildew/mold smell. There was obviously significant water damage to the home, which was not remedied appropriately. There were lights burned out in the stairwell going down to the 1st floor; there are no lights to light up the stairs to walk down. This was a safety hazard, especially for my older parents. The door to come into the unit is completely warped, and you have to tug it closed in order to get it to close. Again, very difficult for older parents. There was a can of tobacco in the powder room waste basket upon our check-in. It was not ours. The television in the 2nd floor master bedroom didn't work; there was no sound and the picture kept going out. The tech was able to reboot it and fix the issue. And the television in the smaller bedroom on the 3rd floor did not have cable access at all. The tech told us there was nothing he could do to fix it, and they would need to call the cable company to have them come out and replace the box. The double coffee maker doesn't work on the left side. While this was a relatively minor issue compared to the other issues with the home, with 8 guests, this would've been quite helpful to have enough coffee for everyone. The majority of the dishes, plates and silverware in the kitchen were very dirty. Some of them appeared to have only been rinsed and put back into the cabinets. I took pictures of dried food on 7 different plates and bowls, along with greasy silverware and two frying pans that still had grease/residue in them. We obviously were able to buy dish soap and wash the dishes, but it was unacceptable to have to clean up someone else's mess. We feel this should have been done by the cleaning company before we arrived. My son lost his phone charger, and I was looking under the couch in the living area. There was so much dirt and crumbs under it. It was quite disgusting, and further confirmed the uncleanliness of the rental. We have rented from Wyndham / Resort Quest multiple times before this without issue. This vacation, and this home in particular, were a great disappointment. I am sad to say that we will likely consider a different rental company for our annual family Bethany Beach trip next year. After speaking to the Rental Relations Specialist, Ashley, and sharing my issues, her only response was that she would share our concerns with the cleaning people. She made no attempt to rectify the situation, and in doing so, lost repeat customers. It was quite unfortunate that our vacation was spoiled by the condition of our rental. We attempted to enjoy our time in Bethany and put these issues behind us, but to say we were greatly disappointed would be an understatement."
"We rented a unit for 4 adults & have been coming to Sea Colony since the 80's. After a wonderful visit in early June with my brother & his wife, today I was charged today $159.00 for a stain in the master bedroom. They used my credit card and had never asked or notified me of any issue. I called to get the charge removed since it was untrue to which I didn't get any satisfaction. I am disputing the charges but also question why they still had my card on file & used it 7 weeks after the fact. PCI standards not being followed by such a large company. Very disappointed & discouraged."
"Been renting a house for the past three years., This labor day weekend turned out to be a nightmare. The entire 3 rd floor lost electric power. Called a few time, and the repair guys came twice but could not resolve the matter. We had to leave a day earlier since the kids found the 3rd floor too hot and did not like the darkness at night. Worse part is after calling the Rental relations dept. numerous times, nobody at the department took the time to return my call. Very disappointed."
"We rented a unit at Sea Colony through Resort Quest. On the third day, we were awoken at 5:55AM by the smoke detectors in our unit going off. A six year old child was awoken. They went off again after 6AM, waking everyone up a second time. Resort Quest provides you with no emergency contact information, solely advising you to call 911. We placed a call to them at 9AM when they opened. As of noon, still no one had been to the unit and the alarms continued to periodically go off. We called Resort Quest again, and they confirmed the original work order was not yet assigned and they would add a note that they were still going off and it was annoying. We returned to our unit later and found a tag, stating that they were in just before 3P and changed all of the batteries. We went to dinner and when we returned, the smoke alarms were still going off. We attempted to reach Resort Quest again, and they were closed. We call the Security Department at Sea Colony and were told there was nothing they could do, that we had to locate the owners of the unit - we were NEVER provided with the owner’s information. We spent two hours trying to find someone to help us, with the alarms blaring relentlessly. Bethany Beach PD would not help, stating it was out of their territory. Finally, we were left with no options and contacted the Delaware State Police. At 11:30, a very helpful and friendly fire chief arrived and verified that the smoke detectors were at the expiration date and were dying and all needed to be replaced. At 12:30, two maintenance men finally arrived and began replacing them. It is absurd that we had to waste so much time, all while the smoke detectors were screaching, trying to resolve something that shouldn’t have even been an issue. Smoke detectors should be replaced during the off season! We had to call again on Thursday, for a toilet that was leaking - no one ever came to repair that."
"Suggest you wait until the absolute last minute to make a reservation as there is no getting out of it within 30 days unless there is a "named" hurricane. Had planned a golf trip for the next 5 days and the forecast is for 100% rain and thunderstorms for those days. For a foursome of guys (two who don't drink) there is really nothing else to do. So pay $170 a round in greens fees (you know they won't lower them despite the constant heavy rain) and be miserable on the course or eat the rent and stay home? Tough call but again don't lock in until a couple days before. I went in eyes wide open but never expected 5 straight days of heavy rain. Don't think travel insurance would cover this. Was hoping they would work with me and give me a credit for a future stay but no."
