The Fence Authority 61 Artisan Drive, Smyrna, DE 19977

"We purchased a 6’ vinyl privacy fence from The Fence Authority in Smyrna quite a few years ago. Well, we started having issues with the gate portion of the fence becoming unstable due to, what we thought at the time, was simply the concrete anchor beginning to fail around the base which goes into a sidewalk. There were many cracks and loose pieces in the concrete poured by TFA, so we patched the surface concrete, but that did not solve the issue. The post continued to loosen...until it fell out!! The post was apparently cut during installation and was only anchored 4 inches into the ground. Now I’m not a fencing expert by any means, but 4 inches anchored into the ground cannot support 6 feet of above ground gate post. I have been calling this company every week, for three weeks now and they refuse to return my call. The receptionist is very friendly, and seems to agree that it sounds like a valid complaint, but I have yet to be able to speak to anyone else in the company. I really wish I could attach the pictures to this review. $7k for a fence and we can’t even get a call back. To fix the issue we will now have to hire another company to finish digging the base, to the correct depth, and install a new gate post. Find another company to do your fence please, and save yourself a great deal of headache in the future. 1 Year Update: So Google sent me an email reminding me about this review, and I figured I’d go ahead and provide an update. I gave up on trying to reach The Fence Authority. They left one message on my wife’s cell phone after I posted the review, but when we called back it was the same old story, no one available at the time and they would call back. Just want to point out that when I called all those times and left my number with the receptionist, it was my number, not my wife’s. My wife’s number would only have been on the original work order, so I know they pulled our paperwork. Oh, also now I can add pictures!! So here are the pictures we took right after the gate post fell out. It has since been fixed by a kind neighbor, who was able to get it set back in the shallow hole with some new concrete. But I’m sure when it falls out again I’ll update this review…again. It’s just annoying at this point, and I don’t expect it to be fixed by TFA, I’m just bored right now. Unfortunately, the cost of having it re-dug and replaced with a new post by a professional is ridiculous right now, so we’ll see how it goes."
