"FAIR PRICES! One of the few places downtown that has affordable and reasonably priced food and add-ons. No complaints here. Flavorful and not over-cooked nor under-cooked. It may not have the most appealing appearance in and out, but it's generally clean and the food is good, and that's what matters. They are friendly too!"
"First off, walking into Evelyn's reminded me of walking into a catfish restaurant in Mississippi. (That's a good thing) I was greeted pleasantly and was engaged in small conversation while taking my order. It felt genuine and personable. (I like that) I had the Catfish platter with greens, potato salad, Mac and cheese, with a piece of cornbread as my sides. The catfish was fried nicely and the size was what you would come to expect normally. The Mac was on the salty side and was probably the LCD (lowest common denominator)of all the sides. Greens had a nice vinegary taste to it and was seasoned with smoked turkey or something. I thought I was going to get sick from it because I'm not a meat eater. Thankfully I didn't... the potato salad was creamy with a good amount of chunks in it. It was seasoned well and they sprinkled a little paprika on top. Lastly the cornbread was soft and not too sweet to the point where it tasted like a cheap pound cake. It had a nice grit to it and wasn't too small of a piece either. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I'll definitely be going back"
"10/10 food was amazing! Ma’am Evelyn has brought me back to the days my Grandmother was still cooking in the kitchen. Fish was fresh. 1st photo was Whiting, 2nd photo was flounder. Mac & Cheese had so much flavor. Sweet potato was just right to my liking that why I just had to go back. The first experiences was so amazing that two weeks later I had to drive back up from Va to get my a good ole AFTER SUNDAY SERVICE FOOD! Both experiences was great. Nicky Evelyn’s Daughter has awesome customer service. It’s a clean and peaceful atmosphere! Thank you!"
"I found a bolt in my collard greens and was asked if I wanted another side. The correct answer would I like a refund. First and last time here. And I highly do not recommend."
"3 stars only because of the chicken... They have some good fried chicken..Fresh big size pieces... Seasoned nicely... The chicken was the best part and i would go back solely for that...I would not recommend the cake... It tasted like flour.. it was super thick and dry.. no flavor at all.. nice large piece but no flavor at all except flour... Wasnt able to eat it at all... The yams were edible so were the greens and green beans.. tasted like way too much vinegar but edible... The mac and cheese gets ZERO stars.. do not order it... It tasted like box.. no cheese.. noodles tasted weird.. it tasted like margarine salt and pepper.. no cheese at all... Had to spit it out and trash it.. kids couldn't and wouldn't even eat it... Overall.. if u want some good chicken.. I would recommend.. I guess this is a hit or miss type of store.. u have to catch them on a good day"
