Trattoria La Tavola

"We enjoy supporting local businesses so this isn't easy. We came to Trattoria La Tavola for lunch today because we wanted to try something new. There was a larger party finishing when we arrived, and another couple came in shortly after us (and left before us). Our mushroom soup ($6.50) arrived promptly but was so liquid it needed a straw vs. a spoon. We expected much more from the Mushroom Capital of the World! We couldn't believe that our salad and sandwich were taking half an hour! The waiter came over to our table once to clean our "soup" plates and let us know our entrees would be "right out." I'm not sure about his definition of "right out" but 30 mins later I had to go over to the bar, tell him our meter was running out and ask to bag the rest. So, after 45 mins in an EMPTY restaurant we had a glass of water, some mushroom water, and our sad looking (and tasting) take out. My husband's Caesar La Tavola ($8.50 add chicken $5) had lettuce on one side and five small pieces of overcooked chicken on the other. My sausage and rabe sandwich ($11.95) had hardly any sausage; broccoli and fries were overcooked. The waiter did apologize after he brought the check, but $45 later it was too little too late way too expensive. We've lived in Kennett for over a year and this was our worst restaurant experience. You're up against the likes of Portabellos and La Verona, and this is the best you can do?"

"This was our first visit to La Tavola. The restaurant is in a great location in Kennett Square 'downtown'. The inside is charming and comfortable- nice lighting and not too loud. We ordered a Ceasars salad and olives and chees for appetizers. The salad was tasty with the unique addition of crispy corn kernels. The olives were domestic jarred or canned black California and green olives..disappointing. Feta cheese was also a domestic brand vs true Greek or other Mediterranean. For entrees I had the Branzino- which was cooked perfectly with an unusual basil, cucumber, radish, olives (againe domestic) and onion 'salad' on top...it was delicious. We also had the veal medallions with Fontina cheese in a demi glace sauce and a side of carbonara. The veal itself was tasty but overwhelmed by the sauce. The carbonara- which is very simple to make- tasted like a commercislly provided sauce with some ham substance....not good at all. Desserts and the service were high points. Creme brulee and Tiramusu were delicious and service was excellent. Lots of positives with an opportunity to up the game on the ingredients."

"Had my birthday dinner here. Amazing food and the cacio de pepe is out of this world! Also got the seafood special and cannoli and tiramisu. Michelle was very nice and accommodating. Will be back!"

"What a fantastic dining experience! It is BYOB, and the waiter was able to point us in the direction of a little craft beer spot. Everyone had delicious food, they were even able to accommodate me, a gluten free vegan, with a special pasta dish the chef made. Beautiful restaurant, clean spacious bathroom, handicapped accessible, indoor and outdoor dining. Fresh handmade desserts and espresso."

"Visited on 4/13/2023 and the delay in feedback is it's no fun to not give better than 3 stars on the food. Beet salad and chickpea hummus were the absolute favorites. Meatballs were mushy. And it just went downhill with the entrees. Gnocchi was completely undercooked and thought they just forgot and threw white sauce on raw dough. Seafood tasted old and risotto tasted muddy. Branzino dry. Service was swift and atmosphere was peaceful."
