"My dog deserves only the best! I travel 2 hours one way to see Dr. Lewis. His group is phenomenal, professional, compassionate & caring. Dr. Lewis was recommended by one of my veterinarians because of his expertise & because the team has a board certified anesthesiologist. I could not give him and his team a higher recommendation."
"The staff and doctors at Veterinary Dentistry Specialists are the most wonderful, compassionate and caring people I have encountered in a long time (outside our general veterinary staff and doctors of course). I couldn't have asked for a better experience during our time of need for Steele, our wonderful dog who unfortunately has oral cancer. The staff really helped us through this very difficult time, I am so appreciative of everything that they did. I couldn't recommend them more!!"
"Dr. Lewis and the staff at Veterinary Dentistry Specialists have been so caring, thorough, and knowledgeable in taking care of our two rescue dogs. We’ve gone to them for 3 years and will never go anywhere else for expert dental care for our babies."
"Dr. Lewis and his team are fantastic. Our dog had very painful oral issues but our vet was unable to diagnose or treat it. We decided to try VDS and it was the best decision ever. Within 5 minutes of first visit, Dr. Lewis diagnosed that our dog had stomatitis. I am glad to have the oral surgery at VDS. Everyone is professional! The next day after surgery our dog was back to normal."
"Dr. John Lewis and all of the staff at VDS are phenomenal, and I wanted to highlight the great experience that I had with them. I travelled two hours to this veterinary dentist even though I live ten minutes away from one for two reasons - Dr. Lewis' background and the fact that they have a board-certified anesthesiologist, Melanie Jarrett, on their staff. I have an extreme fear of anesthesia due to prior bad experiences, so the fact that they have an anesthesiologist on their staff made me very comfortable. From my first call to them to schedule my appointment, the staff was extremely pleasant and thorough about what to expect. They let me know that I will first come for a consultation, and then schedule a procedure if necessary. My cat, Maverick, and I first went for a consultation where Dr. Lewis and Dr. Jarrett both evaluated Maverick. Dr. Jarrett noticed a gallop rhythm in his heart, which had never been noticed before. She referred me to a cardiologist so it could get checked out prior to her feeling comfortable putting him under anesthesia. I was immediately impressed with their level of detail and care, and the fact that they took the time to ensure that his health and safety were their top priority. Dr. Lewis let me know in advance that he would not know for sure the amount of teeth that need to be extracted until they get an x-ray once he's under anesthesia, and the front desk team gave me a very detailed document showing the potential costs, from the minimum to the maximum so there would be no surprised. Dr. Lewis also gave me a dose of gabapentin to give to Maverick two hours prior to surgery to keep him calm, which I found really helpful because he gets very nervous in the car. After getting the all-clear from the cardiologist, we made an appointment for the surgery. Dr. Lewis let me know immediately that Maverick would be second in line for that day's lineup of surgeries because the anesthesiologist wanted more recent bloodwork to ensure he was still healthy enough to go under. I found this very comforting and reassuring that he would be safe in their care. They communicated with me constantly throughout the day, texting me to let me know the estimated time that surgery would begin, and once he was under and x-rays were taken, Dr. Lewis immediately called me to let me know exactly which teeth would be extracted. He also noticed a tooth that was not quite at the point that it needed to be removed, but knew that tooth in the future would definitely need to be removed so he asked if I would like it removed now so we didn't need to come back in the future and do another surgery. I really appreciated the level of communication and thoughtfulness in asking my permission to do that. After the surgery was done, they texted me again to let me know that everything went well and Maverick was waking up and doing good (which made me feel better because I was a nervous wreck the whole time he was under), and gave me a time that I could come get him. When I picked him up, the staff went over in detail what to expect over the next few days and weeks, what medications I would need to give him for the next few days, and how to handle his food. Dr. Lewis called me shortly after we left to check in and go over more details with me, and told me that even though they were closed Friday through Sunday, to text any time if there are complications and someone will be available to talk to me. Dr. Lewis continued to personally reach out over the next few days to check on Maverick. He recovered very well from the anesthesia but a few days later started acting unlike himself and wouldn't eat. Dr. Lewis suspected he may have an infection, and said that I could bring him back that day, or that I could take him to my local vet to avoid travelling. We went to the local vet and got antibiotics, and Maverick was back to himself a couple days later. I can't thank Dr. Lewis and the entire staff enough for making our experience so pleasant and comforting. I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking any level of dental care."
