Reviews of Cecil College Young People's Theatre Program
"My son has been participating in YPTP for 5 years. Ms. Kelsy, Ms. Kali, and Mr. Alex are wonderful leaders of the camp. They are encouraging, fun and fair. They listen to the kids and have them participate in many aspects of the plays (costumes, set design, sound, etc.) - not just the acting. Ms. Kelsy also is very good at responding to any questions or concerns I have had over the years, through email, phone and face to face. The plays are fun and typically have a silly twist or concept. My son really likes the staff, and it is because of them that we continue to drive 45 minutes (1 way) to go to YPTP. My husband and I 100% recommend YPTP. My son loves it!"
"i've been going here since 2019 and have loved it ever since. unlike a lot of other theater programs where the kids only get to perform, you get a whole hands on experience. from learning how to program lights and sound, the ins and outs of costuming, how to make props and sets, and so much more. it offers a lot of great opportunities to kids who want to learn the performance and/or backstage work of a show. not to mention the environment is very friendly and accepting of all backgrounds. staff and kids have always been a pleasure to work with, as much as it's a theater it's also a family, no matter what you have a place here. i've made some of my closest friends in this program and i don't know what i would've done had i not met these lovely people. in personal experience when i started going here i was very insecure and shy, i could barely talk to anyone without getting nervous let alone be heard on stage. a little over 4 years later now and i've grown to be not only more loud and confident as an actor, but also as a person. i'm much happier and secure in myself and i owe many thanks for that to this program for allowing me to grow up in such a safe and welcoming environment. for many other kids i know that's also the case, as one of the older campers i get to see the little kids(and even some older kids) go from being too shy to speak on day one of camp to laughing and talking nonstop by show day. i'm very sad to be aging out so soon but i highly recommend anyone interested in theater even just a little to try this program out as soon as possible, genuinely changed the life of me and many other kids for the better. :)"
"My daughter has been attending YPTP for six years under the direction of Mrs. Kelsy and Miss Kali. She has participated in both the summer programs as well as the school year sessions and loves it. We are so happy with the experience we have had with this program-my daughter has had the opportunity to work behind the scenes and on the stage. She has been exposed to a diverse experience, meeting and working with kids of various ages, backgrounds and experience levels. She has grown so much as a result of this program-the instructors really get to know these kids and foster their growth and success. They instill self confidence, kindness and cooperation. Not only has she grown as a performer but as a young girl. I am so thankful for this program and we will be back again next year!"
"My son has been involved with YPTP every year from 5 to 15, and has loved every minute of it. The instructors here provide opportunities appropriate for every age and stage of development, and it goes well beyond just memorizing lines. Students are given the opportunity to explore acting as well as many behind-the-scenes skills such as costuming, lighting, sound, props, design, and much more. The instructors are always top notch and relate to the students at the level that is appropriate for them, allowing them to explore their creativity while also teaching them valuable skills. The performances at the end of the camp are always a delight to watch, and you can tell the students are having so much fun both on stage and backstage. Perhaps the most important and lasting impact, however, is the community. My son has made some of his closest friends at this camp, and they continue to come back year after year to have more great experiences. One can see how much this has continued to be a positive influence on him. Not only does he have confidence on stage, but you can see the confidence carry over into his school, social life, and even as he is now looking for his first job. I cannot recommend this camp enough, it will be a great experience for your children."
"Our kids loved this camp, from ages of 6 to 17. We tried a few different camps when they were younger but this was the one they kept coming back to as their favorite. From a parent's perspective, it was also ideal: inside/air conditioned, safe, allows the kids to express their creative side, learn the technical and performance sides of the show, and great people running the program. They have shows at the end of every camp so you can see exactly what the kids have been working on and to meet some of their new friends. Can't recommend this enough to give it a try for a week or two!"
