"I’m leaving this review based on my experience with attempting to cancel my appointment today. I tested positive for COVID so I called to cancel my appointment. I was informed that I would still be charged 50% of the fee for the service ($92) without exception. I would have been able to provide a doctors note and proof of positive test. This policy essentially punishes you for telling the salon you have COVID. Unfortunately I cannot return, the salon is incentivizing clients to lie about being sick and come in just to avoid the exorbitant cancellation fee. It’s too bad, I had an excellent experience at my first visit."

"I have been to Modify twice. In my experience, the quality of the haircut/service has been average. The larger issue is associated with their no show policy, which has been, in my case, completely non transparent. After the haircut, the stylist booked me for the next appointment 8 weeks later. I received a reminder text the day before the appointment but forgot about it and didn’t confirm nor cancel. Two days later, I received an invoice for the full price of the haircut, which was automatically charged to my credit card (I didn’t even know they had it on file). Since this policy was not communicated to me by either the stylist during my visit or mentioned in the reminder, I called the salon to see if I could reschedule and get the no show fee applied to my next appointment. The owner was extremely rude and refused to help. I definitely will not be back"

"I haven’t gone to a hairdresser in 5 years and I was so insecure with my curly hair, so for my birthday I decided to give salons a chance and I came here for a relaxer and a blowout. My hairdresser was Robert and not only did he do an amazing job on my hair but he was so friendly it felt like my friend was doing my hair! My hair last through the club and crazy nights and the way he relaxed my hair considering how curly and matted it was ( think 3b/3c hair) lasted the whole weekend. He did a light relaxer so that my curls were manageable, I was a little nervous cause I wanted pin straight hair but I trusted him. He was very methodical in how he wanted to go about the processing especially because I have very fine hair. Now my curls are A LOT looser and let me tell you I feel 10x more confident I’m so happy I didn’t go pin straight. My hair doesn’t sit on my head like a hat anymore and he cut it so perfect it looks amazing straight AND curly. I don’t even want to straighten my hair anymore and I don’t have to go in for another touch up for another 3 months!!!! Amazing salon and I would definitely recommend any POC or anyone who feels hopeless about their hair to come here !!"

Robert is adept at working with diverse hair types and textures. Moreover, he prioritizes inclusivity, ensuring that his space welcomes everyone. Personally, I had a history of traumatic experiences when visiting salons and barbershops in my youth. However, Robert managed to create an environment where I felt safe and comfortable. His professionalism and empathetic approach were truly reassuring. Looking ahead, I eagerly anticipate his future ventures, whether it's launching his own salon or pursuing other endeavors. With his talent, dedication, and the positive impact he has on his clients, I have no doubt that he will excel in whatever path he chooses."

"I really appreciate how the shop opened at 8:30am for me because of a wedding at 12. I had great conversation with Erin and she did lovely bridal hair. I am giving this experience 3 stars because they do not necessarily cater toward African American hair. Which is mind blowing seeing that the owner Diane is indeed black. There were no products to tame my edges. Or proper products to protect black hair from heat damage. Very disappointing. It’s also very funny to me she adds “identifies as black owned” to this google page. Luckily I went with my hair already blow dried and straightened. She just had to style. Thank you Erin for getting my hair done in quick and efficient timing."
