"The listing for our apartment was not truthful about having central heating/air, hardwood floor, or granite countertops. There are window units sticking out of the wall and disgusting electric heaters on the baseboards that have been painted over. You can see bugs, hair, and dirt that’s been painted over on the heaters, baseboards and walls. The ceiling fan looks like it’s going to fall out of the ceiling every time it’s turned on. The heat consistently turns off in the winter. Seals on the windows are awful, if you stand in front of a shut window you can feel the breeze from outside. There’s tiny holes and gaps UNDER our heater where you can see the light from OUTSIDE. Kitchen was never fully renovated, our cabinets were not installed properly and there are holes and gaps EVERYWHERE. There are no in unit washer and dryers, only two of each in the basement that floods almost every week. And you have to PAY to use them! Lids on washer and dryer are supposed to lock but do not, I found this out because someone took my laundry out of the dryer no more than 5 minutes after putting it in and left it on the dirty counter sopping wet. When someone in another unit is cooking, you can smell it in your own unit. There is also NO elevator so if you’re a single mom carrying groceries and kids up to the third floor, you’re screwed. This place is a JOKE for $1,525 a month, and the cherry on top ? ROACHES."

"Maintenance team is just one guy so if he can’t get to it good luck. My friend lives here and his bathroom and kitchen “renovations” weren’t totally done upon move in- Lies on the website about hardwood floors and granite countertop... For weeks now there’s been an alarm going off in the building randomly throughout the day that nobody seems concerned about. Would not recommend."

"ENTIRE COMPLEX IS INFECTED WITH ROACHES ! !! I lived here for a year and it was really painful because of the incessant roach problems. During our stay here, we would call the extermination crew at least once a month, each time we would empty out every single cabinet/drawers in the kitchen. But still, roaches are everywhere in the kitchen. At the end, we just did not use the kitchen because we were really worried about our health. The complex was built back in the 1960s with recent face-lift renovations. The floors were really squeaky and you could hear every step of your upstair neighbor loud and clear. That was the most painful renting experience I had in my life."

"This place is nice, I have been to this apartment couple of times. They have spacious rooms and hall. Also, this apartment offers a balcony as well which is a great thing. But, this place is not ideal for students bcoz comparing with other Apartments near by the Newark, Delaware University, they have expensive apartments."

"The property manager Bailey was the best property manager I’ve ever had! She was super helpful and would resolve any issues immediately. She was friendly and really cared about the tenants which is rare to find! She made living at Southgate such a pleasant experience, highly recommended."
