Reviews of Children's Dental Surgery of Malvern
"I really wanted to write a review based on MY experience. I read the reviews last night and was ready to cancel the appointment. I tried to keep an open mind and then a friend of mine said her children have been going here for years so I felt better. We were scheduled for 715 and arrived 20 mins early. When we arrived we signed our paperwork, showed ID and insurance and we were given bracelets with my son’s name on it. We waited about 20-30 mins and we were then called back to the pre op room (which looks like the ER minus all the machines) the nurse came over verified our information again (which they did probably 3-4 times which I liked ) and went over medical history AGAIN (they asked on the phone prior to my appointment as well. (This is for your child’s safety obviously to make sure there’s no allergies etc ). I expressed my concerns about the reviews and they assured me we were in good hands and that the dentist would speak more with me about what was going to happen. They came in and gave him silly juice (my son doesn’t do liquid meds he will vomit so they have a nasal spray option) the dentist came in and she was already notified about my concerns. Which were I didn’t want him getting any teeth pulled without my consent. The dentist assured me they weren’t here to just take kids teeth, and they make their best judgement in the OR because they do not want the child under anesthesia any longer than needed and they really need to get everything done at once to limit the amount of times your child has to be put under( which completely makes sense ) she advised that if I still did not feel comfortable after speaking with her that we were free to leave to get a second opinion and could re schedule. By this point I was very comfortable and was ready to proceed. His appointed nurse came in to help get him dressed and bring him back. By this point my 3 year old son was cracking up and everyone in the room was LOLOL . He was allowed to bring his blanket back with him which made me happy bec he loves that blanket of his ! We were able to walk with him to the double doors and then he went back and did not cry at all! We went out to our car (right outside) for some air and came in to wait. It took 50-60 mins (just like they said). The dentist came back explained everything they did (no extractions THANK GOODNESS) And we were told to pull to the back of the building and ring the bell when coming in. We were greeted and asked to see our hands to verify our child! We went back to the room where he had just woken up ( one of my concerns was that I wouldn’t be there when he woke up) the nurse explained that she would be with him the entire time (and she was) and that once the anesthesia stops he would wake up (and that’s while they’re walking out of the OR) he had a little blood in his nose (from the tube to his airways) and his mouth and they said it was completely normal and he wouldn’t be in pain only his throat would be a little sore. He did wake up screaming which most adults do when waking up from anesthesia so I expected that! We were home by 1015 and we live 1 hour away… he fell asleep in the car and woke up at 1:15and is playing with his trucks. :) moral of my story is yes reviews are nice to go off of but it’s hard to give someone a 4-5 star rating when it comes to your child going into any kind of surgery/ medical treatment. I also looked at PENN medicine pediatric dental surgery and they have a worse rating but I hear great things. Trust your gut when you arrive and make decisions based off of YOUR OWN experience. Majority of the reviews I read were about how they had teeth pulled which wasn’t part of the treatment plan… the dentist explains WHAT could happen in a worse case scenario with the teeth and you have the option to opt out and leave to get a 2nd opinion. At no point was I FORCED To stay and have this procedure done! Thank you to the lovely nurses and staff for making my boy happy and comfortable ❤️"
"I’m so ashamed of myself I never looked into this surgery center as this is the night before surgery and I have just read through all the horror stories! But none said they never received an arrival time which is my issue. I am an hour away and I have not received my arrival time nor have I received surgery time. I can never get a hold of this office and it took them 4 months to call me and schedule an appointment. I will be at the doors the second they open in the am and demanding answers. The issues I have is extremely unacceptable. I should have looked into this horrid place before even thinking about taking my child here."
"After reading some of the not so great reviews on google about the facility my first impression I felt scared, but my visit was smooth, professional and I’m thankful that my daughter was safe. The doctor who did my daughters procedure was honest and compassionate. She did exactly what she said she was going to do, and trust is most important in healthcare. The nurses and staff were very kind and respectful. I’m glad that I did not cancel the procedure, the day before as I planned to, because of reading some of the terrifying reviews left on google. Thank you for taking great care of my baby! We went home and my girl in the blink of an eye was walking around giggling and being her usual self. I would surely recommend this place for pediatric dental care."
"Surgery for a young child is always scary for parents and kids alike. I was very impressed with our visit and the staff. Prior to the appointment they called to go through questions, and answered mine. They were very organized and made sure to check important details several times. When we checked in, the process was smooth and the staff was helpful and nice. The pre-op nurse was caring, clear, and answered our questions. They made our son feel totally comfortable. We spoke to the anesthesiologist and the dentist to go over the details. They were both excellent and answered all of our questions. They both had a great manner with kids and parents. My son got nervous when going back into the surgery room but the nurses immediately made him comfortable and he was smiling and talking to them as he left, without even a plane back at mom and dad. The procedure took exactly how long they said it would and the results were perfect. When we went to visit him as he was waking up, my husband ended up fainting and throwing up (he can’t stand the sight of blood). So the nurses also took care of him, while still taking care of our son, and going through post op instruction with me. We didn’t feel rushed, as they stated it we needed more time they could have moved us to another room. Now back home and our son is feeling good, no pain so far although I’m sure there will be later. Very grateful to all the members of the team that got this important procedure done for our son and made everything so clear and easy for us."
"We had an AWFUL experience the day of my sons surgery. They had removed two more teeth than was discussed prior to surgery. They did not even tell us they did this until we saw for ourselves when our son woke up crying that they took all of his teeth. When we asked about this, the nurse said weren't they supposed to be removed? We said no, those were not the teeth that were supposed to be removed. When the surgeon came back in he gave us some story about how his adult teeth were close to coming in and it was safer with intubation. Shouldn't that have been discussed prior to surgery?! Surgery was over 8 months ago and his supposed adult teeth that were close to coming in just came in! That was our first upsetting experience with them. The second is trying to get a hold of the office. We have called over 20-30 times over the months trying to talk to someone about a bill we received after surgery. We have also sent messages to them and can't get a response. No one will call us back and now we received a call from collections! We have been calling to get on a payment plan but we had questions about the bill because we were told we would not owe anything after paying for the surgery up front. We have totally switched dental offices completely after these awful experiences. I would not recommend them to anyone."
