"I am currently completing the 60% interior design course. There are many beneficial aspects of class. First of all, the chapters are very detailed. The assignments are practical, including drawings, measurements, furniture arrangement, and lighting installation plans. Feedback on assignments is accurate and clear instructions help with corrections. The exam consists of theoretical content such as color tone(hue) and the history of furniture. It would be nice if the current interior design trends were reflected a little more, but I think it is good in the sense of having the basic knowledge necessary for interior design. I think it is each person's responsibility to flesh out the class. In my case, I take a class and go to the corresponding site to see it with my own eyes and feel the texture with my hands. You can learn a lot about everything from walls, floors, tiles, furniture, fabric, trades, etc., if you find a store near you and educate yourself. I hope you take the class thinking you will learn the framework and put the flesh on it yourself. While working on an assignment for this class, I had a client and am currently remodeling their bedroom. I am grateful to the Institute for giving me first customer. And also I am waiting for the day to finish the remaining classes, assignments, and exams and go to New York to receive my certificate."
"I have been very disappointed. Nothing like I expected. Feedback on projects do not coincide with the project. Can't communicate with teachers other than by phone message, Other projects are showing as not submitted.... Slides look dated....Exam question are in the same verbage as the material. If you make payments you get blocked after a few chapters until you make 2-3 more payments. I asked to cancel the class ( which I thought I read was an option before signing up) but I was told I had to pay a BIG amount to get out. Hoping if I file with Better Business Bureau I will get a refund. Which I had read reviews first. Lesson learned!!! Don't waste your money - in the end this class means nothing for your career."
"I enrolled in NYIAD online in 2020. Starting out, I had such a good experience. It was fun to be studying Interior Design again. That being said, I got to my second project and was stuck there indefinitely because no one ever graded my project. I waited and waited and sent multiple emails and they kept a saying it was being graded, but it never was. You can’t progress without each project being graded, so I was stuck without anything to do but wait. It was never graded, so my money was taken and my time wasted. No one ever even offered me my money back. I don’t know if this place is a scam or if this was a fluke, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone enroll in these classes because you have the chance of just being hung out to dry. It’s unfortunate how it was handled, or the lack there of."
"I work in furniture & design sales, and my employer requires me to give design advice to clients. To strengthen my skills, I signed up for this course. Over the last several months, I've been increasingly disappointed by the content (highly outdated) and the way the assignments are graded (inconsistently, with conflicting instructions). This course is a great idea on principle - it is sorely lacking in execution. I recommend spending time and money elsewhere."
"My sister just completed the Jewelry Design Course and received her Certificate of graduation June 17th, 2019. This course turned out to be tough and required learning a lot of technique. NYIAD staff were very supportive along her 18 month journey helping her at every corner. They shipped the course materials and replied to emails in a timely manner. The course itself is well designed. They start you with learning theory and technique in level 1, and by the time you reach level 6 you have an Online Store, Your own designer line of Handmade Fashion Jewelry, A Logo, and you learn how to take professional grade photos of your work. On a separate note, we had one incident over the holidays (November 2018) where my sister submitted a section for grading and it took them 60 days and a few email follow-ups to get it done. They did explain to us that grading is left to instructors and they do that at their own pace, however they did agree that anything over 30 days was not acceptable. In the grand scheme of things, that is just one incident out of 6 different submissions and everything else went smooth. NYIAD deserves their 5 Stars.. We will refer friends to them in a heart beat"
