Horse Island Research Station Branford, CT 06405

The Horse Island Research Station, located in Branford, Connecticut, is a unique ecological field station managed by the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. Situated 1.5 miles off the coast in the Long Island Sound, Horse Island is the largest and least developed of the Thimble Island archipelago. The Research Station was designed in collaboration with the Peabody Museum and Yale School of Architecture to serve as a hub for ongoing ecological research. The station features a pavilion with covered patio spaces, a flexible teaching area that can be opened to the exterior, solar energy generation, rainwater collection and filtration systems, overnight accommodations, and secure storage for field research equipment. This off-grid facility aims to increase accessibility to Horse Island for the wider academic community and support a variety of research initiatives in this pristine natural environment.
