"Having had MDS, Myelodysplastcsyndrome in 1999, I was monitored by the Praxair Cancer Center, by a wonderful doctor, Martin Abrams. Initially, blood work every other day until my platelet count was stable after being blasted, bombarded by total body radiation and 2 days of extremely potent chemo and a stem cell transplant. I saw this Martin Abrams for 15 years, going from every other day to once every three months to have blood monitored. For those 15 years, my recovery was stable, with NO issues. This Martin Abrams left Praxair Cancer Center and I then was seeing a Dr. Zikria. The first time I went to her, blood was drawn from a finger prick, I did not think much of that until I saw my results, which were being tracked by me and charted. The blood results had me dying once again, where upon I yelled to Zikria, “ What the F—- is going on here, for 15 years everything is going fine and now it looks as if I may be going back to Yale New Haven Hospital dying once again. She was very laid back and said “ I think we will draw blood from the vein, which I had done routinely for 15 years, and I said “ You bet your ASS you will”. The results were, of course, normal. Zikria said she would put in my chart to draw blood from my vein rather than a finger prick, I went home, PISSED. I saw this Zikria several times and then she left Praxair, or so I was told. The next doctor I saw was a Dr. Jain, who at my appointment the nurse was going to do a finger prick, she and I argued for 20 minutes, I would not allow her to do a fingerprick, when finally she said she would ask this Jain about drawing blood from the vein. Having thought Zikria put in the chart, record, to draw blood from the vein, I was getting very angry. Of course drawing blood from the vein, the results were normal. I went home FURIOUS and could not dismiss this extremely emotional BLIP in my progress. I went to Praxair and spoke with the Office manager, whereupon I learned Zikria never put anything in my chart, record and I was looking over the manager’s shoulder as she put in my record to draw blood from the vein rather than a finger prick in RED!! for appointments forthcoming, REALLY !! I asked her what is with this finger prick, she said it was for current chemo patients. That is when I LOST IT!! I ranted “if anyone looked at my record, chart, he/she/it would know I only had chemo while in Yale and never the entire time I was being followed by Praxair”. Of course there were no follow up appointments, got all my records from Praxair Cancer Center, and would NEVER recommend that facility to anyone. Proceeded to try to initiate a Medical Malpractice Case, spent many hours, days, months researching, speaking to lawyers and in the end no case. Advise to patients, BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE!! These so called doctors do not know what the HELL they are doing!! Sad commentary, but TRUE."
