Suffolk DBT - Long Island

"We enrolled into the DBT-c program for our daughter. We as the parents were signed up for the 10 week parent workshop that goes along with the Childs individual weekly sessions. This is all out of pocket pay and being $150 per session for the families, this workshop was in our experience horrible. The clinicians just read word for word off a powerpoint, which parents did not have access to after sessions. Instead we were given a binder and advised that the information discussed would be located in the binders. While some forms were, many were not. We raised our concerns having a disability and that our disability made it very hard to learn this way but our concerns were not able to be met with how they choose to present he workshop. We were also assigned homework which we never went over in its entirety. Some of the homework was hard to complete since the powerpoints weren't handed out and that information then was not available to look back to to clarify. We were advised that questions should be given to the Childs individual therapists at the last 15 minutes of their session. This was also frustrating since as parents we were all there to learn as a group and get the feedback from our experiences to tie into the materials being presented. We ended up dropping out after 3 weeks and bought a book on amazon for $60 which has been more helpful."
