Reviews of Porter and Chester Institute
"Negative school! This school has no support. Stone academy school had closed but the teachers actually cared about you. The admins do not care about students, they want to pressure you, treat everyone like babies instead of grown women. Teachers are cliquey. 0 out of 10 stars. When considering programs please considers somewhere else like a community college."
"I want to start off by saying that everyone’s experience is different. The most important part is the effort that you put in. My experience at Porter&Chester has changed my life. I would like to say thank you to all the staff especially the ones that helped me on my journey. Mr. Granata was my evening instructor he was extremely knowledgeable and taught me many different things. He was funny, smart and understanding. When the pandemic hit a lot of things changed. Mr Granata was forced to retire and the the new normal was set. Mr Piombino the day time Instructor had became our distant learning instructor and his younger brother Little Piombino became the lab instructor on campus. Each instructor is amazing in their own way and have their own teaching ability. When I struggled with something I was always able to learn from the others perspective. Each teacher always used personal experiences when speaking on the topic so I was able to learn through their efforts and mistakes. Because of these men I was able to graduate with good grades and have some knowledge of the trade. Next I would like to give a huge shout out to my career advisor Erica Jerolman. To be honest the first half of my time at Porter&Chester I didn’t see her much due to the fact that she worked days and I was attending school at night. Also I didn’t really utilize the resources at hand in the beginning. Overall in the end when the time matter Erica made up for that. She worked overtime along with myself sending my resumes to probably over a hundred companies. The week I graduated I had three interviews. Erica is very reliable and a great resource to have. Erica would pick up even when she’s not working to assist you in what ever way she can. She would call or email to inform you she have some leads and ask your permission to send your résumé. She always told me to be patient while staying consistent and my time will come. Well a month after graduating and many interviews I landed a career job and started my apprenticeship with ADT the security company. I am truly blessed to be in my position but I wouldn’t have been here without the staff at Porter&Chester. I will own my own business because of them so I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to Mr. Granada, Mr. Piombino, little Piombino and last but most certainly not least Erica Jerolman for believing in me devoting their time, energy and helping me get to the next step in my life. I am truly honored. My only advice I can give is to not listen what others might say about this school. Put your efforts in first before writing them off. Also help them help you."
"I had two of the best teachers that you can get at the school. They teach me everything that they learned and did it in a fun and entertaining way. I also want to say that I’m very grateful for Tara, She helped me for about two months Trying to find me a medical assistant job and without her help I would not have a position in the clinic that I wanted. I appreciate everything she did for me through the long process and I wouldn’t have gotten this far without her. Thank you To everyone who got me to where I am! I recommend this school."
"I went to this school. Their rotating enrollment can seem scary at first. After I had the chance to meet new people and learn I was able to achieve full knowledge of basic electrical understanding. If that’s not enough - before I walked across the stage they landed me an interview which I was hired. After a little over a year I was let go. I was devastated, I called my career services worker Tara , however she had switched locations, but Introduced me to her replacement. Ericka. I called Ericka on Friday and had another job willing to hire me that Monday. No it’s not just given I actually earned my reputation, with great attendance and hard work. Mr. Butler was a great instructor as many of their staff are. Trust me learn a trade and stand out from others, this school will definitely make you a success story!"
"I had a great experience with the electrical department in Hamden. Awesome teachers and a brand new facility with separate industrial and residential areas that are large and well built. I had all the supplies I needed and always knew I had the support of my teachers who gave me multiple perspectives to learn all the theoretical and practical skills I needed to feel comfortable on a job site I was the only woman in the class and felt totally comfortable and welcomed. You're given lots of time to work in the lab and lots of extra time after school as well. We got to learn extra skills like how to operate a scissor lyft and got to work with brand new PLCs too. Its on you to take the initiative but all the support you'd want or need is there if you want to learn. Every campus is different and you'll hear a lot of different P.O.Vs but taking this course totally changed my life and I feel so grateful I got the chance to experience it. All the office staff are kind and helpful. From my own personal experience with P&C I'd 100% recommend the electrical department in Hamden"
