Reviews of OneMain Financial
"Beyond disappointed with Onemain. I decided to take a small loan out back in August of 2022. The process was seamless. I handed over my title as collateral, they took a few pics. They charged the amount they promised me they would change me and I was all set. Not one issue! Instead of worrying about payments monthly, I put them on autopay to an account designated solely for that expense. And with that... I never missed a payment. I was so impressed with how smooth it was, I decided, when I needed extra money for my move, in May of 2023, I went right back to them for an increase! I was approved and again, they took pics of my car. They already had my title so I was all set. I made sure I signed up for electronic delivery because I didn't want to miss any communication from them during my move. Again, never missed a payment. 3 months later, I receive a notification from my bank saying a change was attempted but did not go through. I was so confused, I had the same amount transferred in that account solely to cover the expense of this loan. I called onemain for more info on why my loan payment had increase with no communication at all to me. That's when everything changed. - I learned that it was increased by 11% due to a fee added because I did not verify my car insurance in time. So although I signed up for electronic mail with Onemain, the folks who verify your car insurance are a separate entity and do not do electronic delivery so physical mail never go to me during my move. - I get back on the phone with the insurance verification company and they said, it's no problem, all they need is for us to call my insurance provider together. I get on the phone and they ask my insurance provide to add them as a "lien holder". I was so confused. This is my first time hearing of this request so I did not approve the request and told them I would reach out to Onemain for more information. - I spoke to OneMain and they said, yes, I have to add them as a lien holder on my vehicle as well get full coverage (an extra cost of $150+ to my insurance bill) on my 2011 vehicle that I barely drive and that "how it always is". I was confused because that didn't happen the first time around. I never added them as a lien holder and they have never been a lien holder during the entire year of this loan, as verified by my insurance provider. - When this all popped up I asked OneMain for some time to straighten it out (since my payments come out bi-weekly). The rep did and "canceled" the payment for me. I was grateful and relieved that I now had time to breath, think and move money/bills around to make things work. I later found out that "canceling" the payment did not mean it was pushed to the back of my loan. All it meant was the autopay would not go through, which in turn, looks like I missed a payment. Please make sure you communicate this to your clients. As of today, I've made the expensive decision to add full coverage (comprehensive and collision) to my insurance for my 12+ year car that I never drive as well as adding them as a lien holder (which basically means I am not the owner of my fully paid for vehicle) rather than giving them my extra money in fees. As I have always done before this interruption for their lack of effective communication... my on-time payments are back on track. Hopefully I never have to speak to them ever again. now that they have my insurance info and ownership of my hooptie. Denise"
"Angelly was very helpfull, friendly .She explained me every details with patience, because of her your company gain me"
"The assign you someone to your loan. You can only speak to that person. They give you a “tentative” approval. Which is not really approved until they speak to you. Still gives you a hard credit check. They let you schedule an appointment that they don’t accommodate. The person answering the phone is rude and has no idea what appointments were made and set. This location is completely incompetent!"
"I was approved for 5000. This would have helped me consolidate my credit cards in one payment. And it was a great low payment. I was going to use my car as collateral. She assured me I was approved. We did everything over the phone and the process was okay. She was very nice and worked with me. At the end, I was denied. I was so frustrated and saddened by the news. I just needed assistance."
"My loan specialist explained the options for insurance in detail. When I declined insurance, she offered to attempt to lower my payment by extending the term on the loan. Once I stated that I still was not going to purchase any insurance options, she stated she was not going to try it because it’s not worth it. So I felt like I was only worth looking into a lower rate if I was going to spend additional funds with the company on insurance. I’m here spending money. I should still be able to receive the different terms and options that are available. This is my 2nd loan with OneMain which was four times higher than my previous loan. My next loan necessity will not likely be here."
