"I had been a loyal customer of Old Saybrook Cleaners for over a decade. That all ended in July of 2019, when I had one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any business in my life. I have never taken the time to go online to express my dissatisfaction with any business until now. This is actually the first time I have ever done this, and hopefully the last. I went to Old Saybrook Dry Cleaners to pick up my shirts and as I looked at them carefully, two of them were stained. One of them was stained so badly, it looked as if someone had either swept the floor with it, or it had been on the floor in a pile in some type of liquid that put very bad stains on it. These are stains that I know with 100% certainty were not on the shirt when I first brought it to the dry cleaner. As I started to explain my dissatisfaction to the clerk, the communication was strained as there was a significant language barrier. She kept promising me that she was not going to charge me for these two shirts, but only the other items. She either was not understanding me or did not want to understand that my complaint was much bigger than that. My complaint, of course, was that the shirts got ruined while at the dry cleaner. I asked that she pick up the phone and call the owner. When she was on the phone with the owner, I asked 4 times to be able to speak to the owner. She ignored me, and when she got off the phone, she said something that was completely disrespectful, unprofessional, and dishonest. She said that “the owner does not want to talk to you, and she says that you are a liar.” I took my dry cleaning and went home to think about how I wanted to handle this. The two shirts that are ruined are custom made shirts that cost over $100 a piece to make. The following week, I received a phone call from the owner. When I returned her phone call, we had perhaps even a bigger language barrier than I did with the clerk. When I started explaining the problem to her, she started to yell at me and threaten to call the police. In reality, I didn’t really expect them to write me a check for over $200 for two shirts, but what I did expect was at least some kind of acknowledgment that it was possible that they had damaged the shirts. Instead, she denied any culpability, called me a liar, and hung up the phone. All I was expecting was some modicum of professionalism which I did not get. As a result, I am boycotting Old Saybrook Cleaners and would encourage anyone to do the same who believes that a baseline of any business should be to treat customers with respect, to admit mistakes when made, and correct them."

"Absolutely the worst dry cleaning experience I have ever had. My brand new shirts came back on three different occasions (5 shirts) with tears in the same exact place. After the first event, the attendant even looked at the shirts to verify that there were no tears in them and when they came back, sure enough, their were tears in the same place! By definition, it MUST be coming from the dry cleaning equipment and when I contacted the owner, he said it wasn't his fault! Go to Light House Cleaners in Old Saybrook, they are wonderful!"
