Reviews of Yale New Haven Hospital
"Thank you to the healthcare workers in pediatric emergency unit today! As we all know how scary it is for a young child to step Into a hospital, and not know what the outcome would be… From triage to our room we were treated with such respect. They were so polite and attentive and made my child feel safe. Thank you to housekeeping for navigating me throughout the Hospital in such a difficult time, and last but not least the cafe staff for being so welcoming (Monda) she treated us like family and that’s what a hospital should feel like…"
"The doctors nurses pcas the physical therapist the food service workers on 9West were the best ever going friendliest people I've ever met. They made me feel so welcome like family. I went into the hospital on life support and in a coma I got better and better daily they tried to help me walk I could not walk after a week I was walking with a walker a few days after that I was walking on my own thanks to the physical therapy team I had. Even when the nurses did not have me they would come in to check on me. They would support me and cheer me on daily as I was healing and improving. Thank you so much for all your love support and compassion and for saving my life"
"This place is a nightmare...I've never seen something run so horribly. Whoever is managing this place should be fired. This place is almost like one giant scam. They make sure they have like a dozen valets working during the day so they can park your cars as quickly as possible, thus checking your car in and starting the meter as soon as they can. Once you get inside, everything slows down. The main desk was understaffed as hell, and they made my mom, who was there in a wheelchair for surgery, actually wait in line with everyone else to check in. I'd love to meet the genius that thought the pre-op patients should have to wait to check in behind the people who are there in line to get visitors passes or to just ask a question or something. Just brilliant. The line was like 20 people long, and they only had 2 people on the desk, one of whom was also handling the phone. When we finally got to pre-op, we realized that the hospital had screwed up scheduling, and had her arrive much earlier than she should've for her surgery. They didn't move her up to the surgery wing for another 3-plus hours, and didn't start the surgery until a full 5 and a half hours after we had arrived. Their phone system was also down for many hours that night, so I was unable to call the post-op area of the hospital to actually make sure that my mom had made it through surgery okay. I had to just assume everything had gone well. They also gave me ZERO notice whatsoever when it was time to pick my mother up, the staff just handed her a phone and told her to call her ride to say she was ready for pickup. While we were waiting for her to go up to surgery, we witnessed patients actually stuck in the waiting room for over an hour while their rides were waiting outside the entire time, just because the staff had somehow run out of wheelchairs! HOW DOES A HOSPITAL RUN OUT OF WHEELCHAIRS? You would think they would have enough. But that's just typical for places like this. They spend on unimportant things, like decorations, the aesthetics of the hospital's interior, all the fancy cafes and cafeterias they have inside. They skimp on the important things, like staffing, their phone system, and medical supplies like wheelchairs. This makes the experience terrible for everyone, the staff included, and whoever is involved in the day-to-day management of this hospital should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I hope it's just simple incompetence, but the cynic in me has to wonder if the hospital's service is slowed down on purpose. That way, visitors spend the maximum amount of time there, which translates to more money spent at the hospital's many coffee shops and food places, the gift shop, and on valet parking, as well as being able to keep the patient at the hospital as long as possible in order to bill their insurance company for as much as humanly possible. I legitimately have to wonder at this point, because it's hard to believe that one of the most acclaimed hospitals in the country is this incompetent, and not doing this on purpose."
"As I sit here in the emergency room with my husband, near the doors, time clock machine. We had been disturbed the entire time by people clocking in and out, having to reach over my husband which is sick(obviously why we are here) . Is Yale this greedy for money that they are willing to put their sick patient in the hallway next time to the time clock? How is someone suppose to be getting better when people are reaching over them. What about their dignity? This is so embarrassing having your staff have to reach over him. Next time I will bring him someone where patient care is #1 and not profit. It’s one thing to be in the hallway but near the double doors, and near the time clock where people need to have access too. The level of compassion for the sick is thrown completely out the door, here at Yale."
"Where to begin, both of my parents are patients of Yale Nee Haven Health, but for the last 44 days with a short break in between my sister and I have spent 10 hours a day here while my mother has been inpatient due to the discovery of cancer which a Yale New Haven Pulmonologist has misdiagnosed for the last year, then a stroke and then a readmission due to dehydration. The nurses and doctors here are amazing but they are so understaffed we wait close to 45-60 minutes for the nurses to respond to call regarding severe pain, my mom was noted as having an incident of inconvenience but rang the bell for assistance and no one showed up until it was too late, at the point on time the only reason that my mom is still in the hospital s because we’ve been waiting on a MRI which we’ve been waiting for since Sunday night but has been pushed and cancelled 4 times so the hospital just leaves her here in bed where the nurses only come in 2 maybe 3 times throughout the day, maybe because we’re here for the full 10 hours we’re allowed but then have to wait 45 minute when they’re needed, despite the hourly rounds posted on the wall in each room advising that a nurse or a PCA should check in hourly. What this hospital has become due to the staffing shortages as a result from the hospitals own doing related to their COVID policies during the pandemic is just awful. There was a patient care associate searching the floor for personal protective equipment so she could go into a room to assist a patient that required on so so before entering the room, she made a call and was instructed to check another floor!! What is going on!!"
