Reviews of Zihrup Trail Parking Area
"Parking was easy to find. There's actually 3 ways into the trail system. One is just before the house on the left, the other is down the path that begins where the road ends, and the other is right in front of the parking area. That takes you to a small loop inside Meshomasic State Forest that reconnects with the rest of the trails in the open space. It's true, there's a few water crossings. The last one stopped me the first time I went out. It was a tad too cold and too late in the day to risk falling into the stream. It's passable with mud boots or excellent balance (a couple log crosses it), and I had neither."
"Please note: Parking for the trail is across the street from this address. There are spots for 4-5 vehicles. The trail entrance is a few hundred feet south on the west side of Windham Road (same side as the house). Look for the shiny blue sign. The trail is rocky, but manageable. There are two water crossings. At the time of my vist, the brooks were flowing. Waterproof boots are mandatory, unless you like wet feet. Look for the blue-white-blue blazes. The trail goes upwards to one of the highest points in Glastonury. A connector trail to the west links up to the Shenipsit. If you follow the Zihrup trail to the end, this leaves you at a dirt road. Travel to the left/north, and you can pick up both the Shenipsit and Garnet trails, or turn right/south and walk back to the parking area. Warning: Rattlesnakes may be in the area."
