"The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts WAS a great program. In the past four years, the morals of the administration and some of the faculty have slowly deteriorated. First, the phone restrictions were tightened and those students with IEPs and 504s who used devices were left to fend for themselves. Students who break this rule will first have their phone taken for the day, have a parent/guardian called on the second strike, and reserve ISS(in-school suspension). They have also begun timing students' bathroom breaks, treating unclear punishments for those who go over 11 minutes. Teachers are mandated to give at least 20 minutes of homework per class period; on average this could lead to a student having 2 1/2 - 4 hours of homework nightly. This year's new tardy policy was implemented in which a student can have after-school activities, prom, other dances, field trips, the opportunity to be in student government, and other exciting parts of high school revoked with little to no way to earn them back. To move on to the teachers. Three teachers have been witnessed saying the n-word with the hard r, having no repercussions. A teacher has also been behaving inappropriately toward students for over 2 years. There have been no repercussions under the guise of the school wanting a teacher with a doctorate on staff. To sum up, if you are a person of color, queer, neurodivergent, value your education, are low income, or overall operate with the moral code of the average upstanding person, do not attend the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts full-day program. I do highly recommend the half-day program, those who run that school value their students and are truly welcoming."
"I went to an open house for my granddaughter and it was very informative."
