"Please don't send your child to this school. The only positive experience here, was that our son made some nice friends, and we met some great families. This school is NOT equipped to handle special education students' academic needs, and/or their social/emotional needs. The range of academic needs and behaviors is vast and extreme. Students are lumped into classes with a gamut of learning abilities and behaviors. Our son's education suffered, due to a poor curriculum and knowledge of how to lead and teach students in a special needs school. Academic modifications don't happen, and there is not a certified special education teacher working with students. There are no guidance counselors or therapists. With so many special needs students, it is utterly flooring , that there aren't multiple special education teachers on staff. OT is privately outsourced. All students get punished for the behaviors of a few, or incidents get pushed under the rug and hidden from parents. If you have an emergency, it is nearly impossible to reach a staff member after hours-even during school hours. Our son was humiliated and called names by staff, multiple times, and we are left to deal with the aftermath of this unimaginable trauma. He was physically assaulted by a student on campus and was made to sit alone at the cafeteria. Humiliation is commonly used as a means for behavior, and the staff and student turnover rate is substantial. It is a tragedy, as this school has such potential, if it were run properly by qualified and caring leaders. We did not hear back from the board, when we issued several complaints. Students are afraid to speak up and complain. Inappropriate problems/incidents occur, that the school keeps hidden. When our son was assaulted, the students were told to not tell their families about what had happened to him. Our child was called names and was told that he held up the dorm after having a seizure. He was sent to the hospital after having another seizure, with the wrong list of medications. The ugly scars from this school will forever haunt him and us. Don't let the pretty campus fool you. I have two Masters in education, and can't believe this school hasn't been shut down. It should be."
"Went there for two years and absolutely hated it. Most of the staff didn't know how to work with kids who had add/other learning difference. Don't waste your money and send your kids there."
"Worst school possible, teachers there are bad and are not really accommodating. I went there for a year and was balling my eyes out wanting to go home. Never send your kids to Maplebrook it is the worst boarding school ever!"
"Maplebrook is perfect for my son - small classes, individualized curriculum, fun sports and activities, kind staff, and lovely grounds."
