Reviews of The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center
"Update Jan 2024: This store is being closed. Rumor has its final open day will be Feb 20. Can’t say I’m surprised with how the pricing was. They are running a 50% off everything currently and I’m sure the discount will become steeper as it gets closer to the final day. Since being given an uplift, the physical looks of the store is nicer. The prices however are rather steep compared to other thrift stores. The furniture I have seen in the store are great quality items, however the pricing on these are absolutely bonkers! I have seen a couch set for $200-400. Heck, you could buy new couches if you buy during a sale. Same thing with the dressers. At least they always have furniture in the store unlike other thrift stores in the area. Maybe that's due to the high pricing though. Clothing choices are nice, perhaps a little bit dated for today's fashion. Anything that's more trendy is definitely marked up in price. For more variety in clothing, go to savers in manchester. If you are looking for furniture, I would stick to this store even though the prices are a bit steep."
"I usually come here with my family and usually have a nice time and get great finds for good prices. However, I went today since this store is sadly CLOSING down (mind you the windows say everything must go). I am shopping with my family and find this nice skirt for my mother on a mannequin and wanted to get it for her for her birthday coming up. So I take it off, finished shopping and go to the register to pay for my items. I tell the cashier that the skirt has no price so she asks what I am assuming her manager and let me tell you WORST COSTUMER SERVICE EVER. I did not catch the lady’s name but she is around 5’3” has really short hair and is dark skinned. She tells to the cashier that sarcastically saying no she took that off the mannequin Im not selling that to her (like if it’s her store). All over the store says it is shutting down and EVERYTHING needs to GO. She is on her phone not even looking at me directly, giving attitude, rolling her eyes, has a nasty tone about the situation and was not understanding at all. This worker has had many costumer complaints and I’m surprised she is still working there even with all the negative comments about her work ethics. I addressed this situation to corporate and to the direct store phone and I’m just hoping that some sort of action is taken because nobody who does not know how to act or have proper costumer service should not have jobs that work with costumers period. This experience really ruined me and my mother’s day and changed how we view Salvation Army differently for not taking charge of this worker from the first complaint."
"I shop often at this location and always have a fun time here. Sonny is so friendly. He greets me while I’m shopping and talks to me about my business. He’s one of the reasons that I shop in this store!!"
"Really strange thrift store. Prices are quite high for Salvation Army standards and there's almost no one at the cash registers so you have to wait a while for someone to come out. Everyone I've dealt with there has been rude."
"I’m kind of a Sal connoisseur at this point, lol, I’ve been all across CT and MA. This is one of the better ones in CT for sure. Friendly staff, big building, easy access with large parking in shopping mall. Always great for suits/dress clothes, hoodies/sweats, shoes/boots, and kitchen/home good supplies!"
