Reviews of Vernon Coin Center
"I pretty consistently call up Roger at Vernon Coin to see if anything cool came in. He is a nice guy, extremely knowledgeable about everything gold silver and beyond and I always feel good about my purchases there."
"Best coins shop and owner in ct and one of the best in the USA Rodger ( The owner ) is very very honest and trust worthy! Great prices great collection of gold and silver."
"The seller stole from me. I order on ebay and never received neither product nor money back. Now I'm corresponding with ebay support to get my money back"
"I recently brought my 9 year old son into Vernon Coin, since he began collecting coins and researching the values of these coins over the past couple of years. The owner barely acknowledged us, giving his feedback from 4 feet away, across the counter. He didn't take any time to explain any details about the coins my son was so excited to have assessed by an expert. The owner seems to have a very bland personality and lack any customer service skills for someone running a retail specialty shop. My son asked about coins and stamps, and he seemed completely uninterested, basically telling us that the items were literally worth nothing. He didn't even take a moment to pick up the coins or stamps or make eye contact, and have a professional conversation with my son. I would have hoped an expert in this field would want to inspire and educate young people who are passionate about the topic. He couldn't be bothered with us, and was smoking like a chimney on top of that. I read other reviews about where the shop and owner got great feedback from about 2 - 4 years ago, so am surprised by our negative experience. Perhaps Covid has changed his attitude as a business owner, and so we are not getting the same service he used to provide in the past. Maybe he is simply not good with kids. I am unsure, but I was aggravated and felt bad that the man did not even examine anything up close - telling us the fancy box the coin came in was worth more than the coin in the box. It's actually really rude in my opinion - especially when working with kids, to be so gruff about your feedback. I erroneously went into his store expecting a great interaction and learning experience for both of us and that could not have been further from what happened. My husband had taken our son in last year, and he left in tears (my son, not my husband) when the owner crushed his hopes that he indeed did not have as valuable coins as he had researched and thought. Since I was not there that day, I had thought from what my husband explained, that the owner was being honest but gentle with him, which is why I returned this time. After going in myself this time, our experience was really negative. Needless to say, we will not be returning since he has no customer service skills. Another customer in the store actually interrupted our brief talk, correcting the owner about the accurate year pennies were minted with a Philadelphia mint mark - 2017, that is. Anyways, if you have kids you're trying to support with their passion and interest in coins and stamps, this is not the place to visit to encourage the development of that hobby. We will be looking for another Coin store to support our son's hobby and passion. It's too bad this owner doesn't change his approach. He could be inspiring a new generation of people learning about and collecting valuable coins from history. Instead, he's what I would call a Dream Crusher. I hope he reads this and thinks it over to improve his business moving forward. If he did try a new approach, or resume the way he was running his business when he received the excellent reviews a few years ago, maybe we could try again to return to his shop and learn from him."
"This is the best coin shop in the area, in my experience. Lowest prices, great selection and a very knowledgeable owner. Most of the time he beats Internet prices and he always labels if a coin has been cleaned - this is very important. He also offers tons of supplies from different manufacturers. From what I know he mostly sells what is in his display cases, so requesting an item is hit or miss."
