Reviews of Bruce Museum
"The collection is interesting and well put out, even if the museum isn't big you can find something for everyone. I liked the diversity in exposition between the art pieces. Will definitely stop by again when I am in town."
"Great art museum in Greenwich. I came here for the exhibition "Connecticut Modern: Art, Design, and the Avant-Garde, 1930-1960," which did not disappoint. Connecticut was quite the hotbed of modern art and architecture during that period due to its proximity to New York City, the availability of affordable rural properties, and also as a result of World War II and authoritarianism in Europe which forced prominent European artists into exile. Some great artworks by the likes of Alexander Calder, André Masson, Charles Sheeler, Louise Bourgeois, Josef Albers, Arshile Gorky, Yves Tanguy, and others. The rest of the museum had some treasures too including metal sculptures by Harry Bertoia and paintings by the likes of Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, Helen Frankenthaler, Elaine de Kooning, and others. The museum building by architects EskewDumezRipple is also worth a visit."
"Long time CT resident but have never gone to The Bruce until now. A fantastic museum- both the building and exhibits. Only two complaints-the Motherwell exhibit was located in basically a dark dead-end hallway. It didn't do justice to the work. Also the informational signage was crooked in many instances in all the exhibits. Sorry I know that's picky but... Use a level please! I will definately go back. Ample parking."
"The museum is small, but it has a notable collection of European and American impressionists and modern painters and sculptors, as well as sections on minerals and natural history. The ongoing exhibition on Connecticut Modern, Monsters & Mermaids, Then is Now and Robert Motherwell and Multiplicity were well presented. The cafe is great for a quick bite. The gift shop has a good collection of souvenirs. A tip for parents : across the museum is a beautiful kiddie playground."
"I am impressed. This is a great place to enjoy viewing beautiful art pieces and scientific exhibits at the same time. Some areas are very fun and educational for kids as there are a lot of interactive exhibits, including a radioactivity meter, digital microscope, mineral gallery, a lot of touch screens, and others. The museum building itself is very beautiful, modern, and hi-tech."
