Reviews of Le Bernardin
"This restaurant perfectly embodies the expectations of a fine dining establishment. When I say it meets expectations, on one hand, it delivers on the essential elements of a fine dining restaurant – delicious dishes, attentive service, and an elegant dining atmosphere. On the other hand, it leans towards a more conservative style of cuisine, lacking too many surprising flavor twists. The chef is renowned, and the restaurant is highly acclaimed, holding three Michelin stars. It's an excellent choice for those seeking a classic fine dining experience or planning to host esteemed guests. However, if you're hoping for unexpected flavor adventures, this might not be the best fit. For the restaurant, the dilemma of pursuing a conservative yet stable standard of quality versus constant innovation seems challenging. In my view, Le Bernardin has chosen the path of conservatism and stability, excelling in this aspect. I hope the restaurant continues to maintain its outstanding and consistent quality, setting a benchmark for fine dining establishments in New York. Additionally, if the chef's team could find the resources to open a sister restaurant, breaking free from the constraints of fine dining to focus on innovative cuisine, it would be a highly anticipated venture."
"All around great experience for a work lunch. Staff are very attentive. Food was fantastic. Went into the place thinking that dietary issues with dairy would be an issue because French food, but they knocked it out of the park and were phenomenally accommodating across the board including things like the bread and dessert treats."
"The reservation is a bit hard to get so I snapped a late lunch time. Strict dress code which is fine, love to dress up for special occasions. The service is definitely top notch. Everyone is so attentive, it’s a bit quiet in the restaurants so not much a vibe, everyone was silent. We went for the highest tasting menu, since it seems like has the best value and got to taste their best and signature dishes. Lobster and scallop dish are way too salty. the halibut is too dry. My favorite is the Dover sole, perfect balanced flavor. There’s a mix of flavors, It’s very satisfying after the meal, $315 price tag is not too bad for 3 star, definitely worth trying at least once."
"I had high expectations here and they were all met. The presentation was impressive. The service was also really good. I definitely did not need a drink before my wine tasting. They pushed that a little too much. Our whole table was already doing a pairing. But it was fine. I would recommend champagne before the wine tasting or something light. The wines were all delicious and paired nicely with each plate. The ambiance was perfect. Expect to spend 500 min a person. Overall, I would definitely recommend this experience."
"I had high expectations for this restaurant. Pros: The appetizers were very tasty, my favourite was the complimentary soup. The portions were just right. I liked that you have different options for your dinner. It was kinda like a set menu but you have the freedom to choose different dishes for your meal. The flavours were good for some of the dishes, I felt like they were trying to play with different cuisines. It was not only French but a little bit of Asian, for example the shrimps with coconut sauce. A bit of Caribbean with the fruits added to the dessert. Cons: Although the service was good I felt rushed because you have to decide all your options at the beginning of your meal with the little time provided. They served bread but it’s cold. Some of the dishes tasted good but it wasn’t like wow either. Some of the desserts were an interesting take on Asian styled desserts. But the balance of sweet and sour was off as the dessert was sour. The linen on the table is old and worn out. It was not comfortable to touch nor look at as there were lint all over the middle of the table. Being a high end restaurant, we were expecting a lot more for attention to details."
