Reviews of Roggi's Auto Service
"What I appreciate the most about this place is their honesty. If they don’t think something is worth the cost of fixing they will tell you right away. They were professional, courtesy and had my car back when they said they would. Highly recommend."
"DO NOT USE Roggi's Auto Service, 276 Hudson St., Hartford!!! Disgustingly dishonest, despite looking very professional. They tried to overcharge my friend a lot for necessary work, and ALSO tried to add completely unnecessary work at EXORBITANT prices. As you can see, they quoted a total of $1905 for the necessary work. (I got it done at a legit place for $1680.) But they also said they should replace her washer reservoir for $477!!!!!! And her perfectly good battery for $356!!!!! And told her over the phone the total of $2740, without going into any details, when she had told them she wanted them to do the minimum to get her out the door. When she told me $2740, I went down there, got a copy of the quote, and had it towed to a legit place. BTW, her battery is FINE. When I confronted them, they said there was some corrosion on the posts. OMG!!! So disgusting. DETESTABLE. I hear so many stories like this especially from women friends who aren't car people. (Roggi's tried to make me pay a diagnostic fee before taking the car, and I was having none of that. Steam was coming out of my ears. The owner just turned and said "Just let him have the car.")"
"I wish I could give this place the 5-star review they deserve, but my otherwise positive experience with them was completely soiled by my interactions with their employee, Corey. At the advice of my insurance company, I had my vehicle towed there for a flat tire repair. I was thrilled to see that they had such excellent reviews and have been in business for over 70 years! As someone who lives and works downtown, loves this city & seeing its businesses thrive, I was eager to give Roggi’s a try. I’m ALL for supporting the small American business owner! I called them to confirm they could perform the job and what the ETA would be. I spoke with Luis, who was friendly, professional, & polite. He took down my info, assured me he’d get me the correct answer, and would call me back. When we spoke again, he kindly explained that while a repair could be done same-day, replacement would be 1-2 business days. Ok, no problem! My tow truck comes, and we head to Roggi’s. After that, the situation went south. As my car is being lowered onto their lot, Corey comes out of the shop and just says “what’s going on?” Not “Welcome to Roggi’s, what can we do for you?” or even “Hi, I’m Corey, what’s going on?” but a stern, cold “what’s going on?” This set the tone for the rest of our interaction. I inform him that I have a flat tire. With just a quick visual inspection, he asserts I’ll need to have both front tires replaced. I explain to him I just bought all four tires last autumn and first would rather at least EXPLORE the possibility of repairing the flat versus two replacements. He then insists that I just take my car elsewhere as they won’t be able to do anything until sometime next week. I reiterate that my roadside assistance has already towed my car here; I’m here, my car’s here, this is where I’ve elected to have it serviced. I couldn’t believe how he was immediately trying to kick me off their lot and take my car issue someplace else. Not even a “let’s take a look and see what we can do” first! His demeanor, mood, and tone of voice were all very clear: I don’t want to deal with you and would rather you just leave. By now I’m in disbelief at how much I have to push to get any assistance out of him. Finally, he begrudgingly tells me to follow him inside. He goes back out to measure the front tires and says they’re at 4/32. Again, having bought them just over a year ago, I’m surprised to hear they’ve already lost 6/32 of tread. I ask Corey if he measured the tire edges, centers, or if it’s an average of multiple readings. Visibly annoyed and irritated with me, he rudely repeats, “I, measured your tires, and they, are at, 4/32,” and sarcastically points out that “it’s PROBABLY because you haven’t rotated them.” Still, I’m already here and would like to see how Roggi’s can help. He exhales deeply, turns to his computer, and asks for my info. He then asks his coworker, Paul, what their tire plug pricing is. Paul, who was incredibly courteous, polite, and helpful, says they no longer offer those, and only do tire replacements. He tells Corey to inflate my tire and see if they can figure out what’s going on. Paul even says they may have a spare in back for me! Oddly, my tire holds the inflation. They also find the tread to be 5-6/32, not 4. Still, Paul performs a thorough, professional inspection of it to look for the leak. Finding nothing, he suggests I contact the tire shop I purchased from to see if they can diagnose it, as there’s probably a warranty involved that I can take advantage of. I thank him for his help and am on my way. I REALLY wanted to love Roggi’s, and being in the market for a repair shop, I was excited to visit them yesterday in hopes of establishing a relationship for future repair needs. Their lot was clean and well-kept, Luis and Paul delivered 5-star professionalism and customer service, and even the waiting room was warm, homey, & tidy. It’s really unfortunate how palpable Corey’s hostility was towards me on the backdrop of this otherwise great experience. First impressions do matter though."
"I was having transmission problem on my 2015 Chrysler T & C. Had Henry and his Top Associates check this out, it was determined to be in need of a transmission. They said it would take 1 1/2 to 2 weeks to replace. It was done in 5 Business Days. Great job and now it runs like brand new. I use this very much and the expedient turn around, really was exceptional.. Would definitely be going back again, since I have been going there since 1979, yes 1979!! They have always treated me fairly and have always made time for me!! Why would I go anywhere else??Thank You Guys. Jay Aforismo"
"Highly recommend Roggi's, I felt treated with courtesy and professionalism, they had the skills to accurately diagnose and maintain my older, yet (in my mind) mint Toyota Sienna. Came to them after a long road trip and left feeling confident that my old girl was ready to roll. The cost was high end, but the 36 month/ 36k mile warranty on electrical work helped me to feel it was worth it. Will be back!"
