Reviews of Costco Optical Department
"I do not normally write reviews for poor experiences, but I am writing this in hopes that another person avoids the same things that happened to me. I have gone to Dr. Gross at least three times, but due to the following experience in tandem with the Doctor’s extremely condescending attitude, I will not be returning. I made a contact lens fitting appointment for a first time user, and my eyes were too dry and sensitive to be wearing contacts. However, I was not told that my eyes were too sensitive but instead urged to keep trying to put the lenses in during our appointment, despite my eyes being extremely red and irritated to the point of extreme discomfort. My appointment was then ended 20 minutes early and I was not given the prescription due to not being able to put in the lenses. Eventually I was able to get the prescription for the contacts; when I did, the prescription for my glasses was written as well despite not having an eye exam for glasses. When I compared this prescription to my glasses prescription (from the same doctor, given several months prior), an incorrect prescription for an exam I had not received was given to me with a new expiration date. When I asked the receptionist about this, she stated that the doctor frequently makes mistakes."
"I have been wearing the same style contacts since i was 18 years. My prescription has only changed slightly throughout the years. I went to here for my yearly visit so i can order new lenses and the first year went well.. In and out for $150 and i was a happy camper. My second year i went back and i was not having any issues seeing in either one of my eyes. The doctor told me my left eye needs to be bumped up from a 1.25 to a 1.50... Being I'm the customer I listened to the doctor and ordered a year supply. I was told it may take time for the stronger lens to adjust to my eye. I gave it a shot for a couple months and to be honest it was way too strong in my left eye. I ended trying my right eye which was a 1.00 and i found it was better but a little weak because i really need the 1.25 not the 1.50.. i explained to the doctor my issue and that i have a year supply of the wrong strength for my left eye. I bought the lens from a third supplier and i knew I may or may not get a credit back which i understand. The doctor then tells me i would need to come back in to redo my eye exam for another $150.. i explained i was just there and her response was.. i quote, " We do not work for free." At that point i explained if you are not going to make things right, i will be shopping elsewhere. More or less she hung the phone up on me. Talk about horrible customer service....I was very calm and understanding on the phone and thats how i was treated... I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS EYE DOCTOR. I would rather spend double at a real eye doctors office and receive the proper customer service and prescription needed. I am not one to write 1 star reviews but this needed to be said."
"This Optical is very r Wear, i brought a friend for aye axam, everything was fine, we paid $90 for the exam, they dont even ask for membership to do the eye exam (of course they want the $90). The problem was when we want to buy the glases the same day, first think they ask, are you on the membership? And they start to give us a hard time because my friend wasnt on the membership and they didnt sell us the glasses. My point is why they dont tell you all those thing before you spent your $90."
"Definitely go to Luis for help getting your prescription filled. He was super helpful and respectful to my 93 year old mother in choosing two pairs of glasses. We both appreciated his attention, friendliness, and efficiency!"
"I usually don’t write reviews but perhaps this might save someone not only a big chunk of change but also from being told the last thing you would expect to hear from an eye doctor. For those who dislike boring details and want to take my word for it-stay away from Dr. Erica Gross. She is über rude but most importantly incompetent. Long story short, she diagnosed me with astigmatism, shortsightedness and presbyopia. I bought 3 RayBan prescription frames and had the most expensive lenses put in with all the bells and whistles. After about a month I noticed that I can’t really see all that well/sharp. Went back. Got the royal treatment. I’m not the right person for transition glasses, I don’t know how to wear them, etc. I felt as if my mother is unleashing her inner darker self… I explained her that the problem is not with how I “look “ through the glasses but I that I have a suspicion that the prescription (which she so rushed me thru) is wrong. I never saw someone so annoyed. After little convincing work about correctness of my eye glasses Rx (even though I countered with argument that I barely see the gigantic green overhead exit signs on highway) she stated something what still resonates with me:”This is the best I can do for you!” And when I replied with my concern that I’m afraid about me possibly hitting someone in my car because I can’t see well, her response was:” You gotta be reasonable!” Fast forward one year, the naive optimist in me returned to Costco mainly because the whole year I was de facto living like Stevie Wonder, clearly not using the useless 3 pairs of glasses. And you guessed it, as Yogi Berra would say about this second visit at Dr. Gross - deja vu all over again!"
