Reviews of Student Prince Cafe and The Fort
"An excellent German restaurant in downtown Springfield, less than 3 blocks from the Amtrak station. Great beer selection and authentic food."
"Loved the atmosphere, especially for the holiday season. The service was good. The food was just okay. My coworker lived in Germany for years and thought it could’ve been better as well."
"Started with the spaten Oktoberfest beer. It was refreshing and we both had the Yeager schnitzel with butter noodles and red cabbage. The veal schnitzel was delicious . We also had the apple strudel for dessert along with the Indian pudding and ice cream. My wife also had the Chauvet drink. dinner was a little smaller portions and the butter noodles were smaller than I remembered . But over all it was still delicious.they have the largest beer stein and wine screw and bottle opener collections in the country which is a must see."
"My friends and I stumbled upon this place while we were traveling to Western Mass. With its distinct tavern ambiance embellished by wooden decors, it seemed like a perfect spot for a causal Saturday brunch. Surprisingly, given its inviting atmosphere, the place was only half full. Based on our server’s recommendation, we started off with the fried camembert cheese. The warm, melted cheese harmonized beautifully with the honey mustard, setting a good tone for the entrées. For the main course, the Kaiser schnitzel and the Wurstplatte stood out. The schnitzel, though seemingly simple, boasted a delightful contrast of a crisp exterior and succulent interior. The Wurstplatte featured an assortment of sausages, including pork & veal, chicken jalapeño, and classic beef. Our favorites were unquestionably the pork and veal variant, with its luxuriously soft texture. The beef goulash, while flavorful, slightly missed the mark due to its overcooked beef chunks. Overall, a solid spot for basic German food. I’m not very knowledgeable on Springfield’s dining scene, but Student Prince certainly seems like one of the top local’s favorite spot for a casual family meal."
"We flew in from New Mexico the day prior and were looking for something unique up here in MA, a buddy recommended this cozy German spot and they knocked the recommendation out of the park! Seating outside was comfy and very enjoyable in the weather (Better than Albuquerque's 115*F Ambient). Seating inside would've been great as well, fantastic aesthetic and decorations. Service was on point and we felt taken care of throughout the entire experience waiters and waitresses were always around and managers took a visible interest in ensuring service remained on point. Food was wunderbar! We had the brussel sprouts and bratwurst to start and they were both very well done and tasted crispy (for the sprouts) and juicy (for the sausage). My wife had the Goulash and she said it was 'slightly' salty but the meat fell apart and made a delicious mixture with the Sauerkraut and Mashed Potatoes. I had the 12oz Prime Rib (also with Red Cabbage and Sauerkraut-- both great) and had it cooked rare. The bark on the rib was strong and full flavored, I had a juicy cut which (when cut up) paired extremely well with my cabbage and sauerkraut. In short the entire experience was fantastic! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting MA."
