"Happy to say Edwin has been really good at resolving my issue with a letter I wrongly received from IRS and was charged a penalty for past taxes."
"TL;DR: Uncommunicative, unprofessional, and lacking in attention to detail. I'd advise against trusting this company with your taxes. We made a somewhat last-minute decision to work with Edwin R. Monteiro CPA/CITP for the 2021 Tax Season. Our son was just born and in the NICU, so we set it up between our month-long hospital stay. A somewhat uninformed decision, as this was the first year we'd need a tax professional to help us. At first, Ed seemed like he was going to be helpful. He empathized with our situation, and told us he should have it done "by the end of the week". This was April 7th, 2022 - tax deadline was April 18th, which I understand is cutting it close, but stick to your word. Everything was submitted April 14th, and when I asked if we'd need to file an extension, he assured that he'd let me know if it came to that. I hadn't heard from him by the end of the week, and the day after taxes were due, on April 19th 2022, I called, left a voicemail, got no response. Called again on the 20th, left a voicemail, called again and transferred to a colleague, left a voicemail there, sent him an email "Hi Edwin, I left a voice mail yesterday. Haven't heard back about processing our taxes or if an extension was filed, and I'm getting worried that it wasn't completed & we'll be penalized. If you can confirm everything is in order, it'd be greatly appreciated. ". I didn't hear back from him until JUNE 13th! "Apologies for the long delay. I actually took a little vacation time followed by unfortunately getting sick with Covid. I was very sick for a few weeks and am just finally getting over it now. An extension was filed and the filing deadline is 10/15. But I will get things moving along and plan on completing this month. I will be in touch with questions/updates. Please let me know if any questions come up as well." Listen.. I get being sick. I get having COVID, we had it too. But the absolute lack of care for his job & duties to his clients is insane. I was more than understanding in my response, even wishing him well in his COVID recovery. But he took FULL advantage of that extension. I emailed him AGAIN on Sept. 15th for a status update. Called on Sept 22nd, and didn't hear back until Sept. 23rd. "My apologies for the delay. I will have things all wrapped up between now and Monday. Just a couple of things I need to finalize are:" So he hadn't even started it.. Our returns are fairly straight-forward. Within 20 minutes I emailed back with the requested items. On TUESDAY (he said it'd be wrapped up BY Monday) he emailed with additional questions. I let my husband handle it from there. They were finally completed on October 3rd. At the end of October, we received notice that there were about $200 in penalties for underpayment of taxes, as well as extension fees."
"Edwin is the absolute best around! Hard working and super efficient!!"
