Tongue Point Lighthouse
About the Business
Tongue Point Lighthouse, located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, United States, is a historic tourist attraction that played a crucial role in guiding shipping traffic in and out of Bridgeport Harbor. Initially constructed in 1894 on a breakwater, the lighthouse has a rich history of keepers tending to its light, including the notable Flora McNeil, Bridgeport's only female keeper. Over the years, the lighthouse underwent various modifications, including the addition of a fog signal and modern optic lantern. Despite facing potential discontinuation in the past, the lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Today, the lighthouse, also known as Inner Harbor Light, continues to guide mariners with its green beam every four seconds. The City of Bridgeport recently sought ownership of the lighthouse, highlighting its significance in the maritime history of the area. Visitors can explore the rich history and picturesque views of Tongue Point Lighthouse while staying at nearby hotels to make the most of their experience.

"Extremely disappointing. You can not access this lighthouse by land. It is set behind a power plant and they not only gate and fence up any area but we figured we can walk rocks to get to but again trying they fence up and gate up and put blocking around that so you can not access at all. We have visited almost all lighthouses on land from NYC to Canada and this one little one is unique because it is blue but the fact you can not get to it is very upsetting."
