"This place is a true gem! Nestled unobtrusively in a little plaza, the restaurant doesn't seem like much on the outside. But you walk into a warm, truly cozy, whimsical atmosphere that wows. The staff were all wonderful and seemed happy to be there, and the service was fast and efficient. Great people. I got a small spot of hot sauce on my shirt, and was trying to get it out, and Zoom! Here comes our waitress with spot remover! Wow! The food? OMG THE FOOD! I at first thought the menu was a tad pricey, but when the food came, my plate was LOADED. Worth every penny! And it was utterly delicious! Very fresh ingredients, and flavorful! I can't rave enough about The Shack. We will eat there many more times in the future!"
"Top notch breakfast spot with cute New England charm! Great value for the $$. "The Mess" was AMAZING and I added a side of sausage gravy. The cornbread was crispy and delicious with the sweet butter. Will definitely be coming back- we were coming home from Mohegan Sun and stopped in for breakfast."
"The Shack is a staple in East Lyme, CT. The food is always delicious and hearty. You won't walk away hungry as the portions are huge. My standout favorites are the Country Benny, which is a variation on eggs Benedict with sausage, perfectly poached eggs, and a tangy hollandaise it comes on an English muffin, but I highly recommend swapping it out for a buttermilk biscuit, trust me. Their French toast is incredible. They use slightly sweetened brioche bread and cooked to perfection. Pair it with their sausage patties where the sage is the star. Lastly, their corned beef hash, grilled until its crispy. It's so warm and comforting on a cold day. Their service is always on point. You won't see the bottom of a coffee cup, and while you may not get a chatty server, they know their business and move quickly to provide A class service."
"Friendly, attentive and courteous staff. They have a vast breakfast menu. Great comfort food. I ordered a side dish (homey fries) as my meal. The portions are generous! I asked to make sure it was a “side dish” portion when my order was out. The waitress laughed, and said yes. My husband ordered the Popeyes Scramble. He said it was delicious."
"An amazing amount of good food at a great price. I love breakfast restaurants and while I know this is more than that - I thought it would be worth a try and I’m delighted I did. It’s a really cool place with lots of antique things on the wall and a diner feel. Everyone was super nice and tag-teaming a very busy restaurant. I had the shanty and was truly shocked at how much food I got. I literally could not finish everything and it was so tasty. My wife was in the same boat - too much food to finish. The food was excellent - everything you could expect as far as eggs, cheese and sausage should deliver."
