Reviews of Goodspeed Opera House
"Saw Dreamgirls last night, and the show was absolutely incredible! From the set to the beautiful costumes, outstanding vocals and acting, what a pleasure! 100% exceeded my expectations for the performance. I want to take my daughter and see it again. Shout out to Paula at the bar, she’s a gem!"
"What a great little theater and show. It's very small. But that puts even the balcony seats close to the actors. Very close. For the ticket price it is a very good deal. The band is very small, one of everything, so the music is a bit tinny. But the atmosphere is fun and informal. Like college football vs NFL. It's just more fun. Acoustics are not so great. This theatre eat built before they figured that out. This isn't high-pressure winner-takes-all Broadway. This is rural Connecticut. Did I say the theatre is small? When this was built, people were 5 feet tall. Because wow, the aisles are tight, there are poles sticking out that you have to climb over to get to your seat. The WC is tiny; ok for men, but woefully undersized for women with sadly very long queue. The place is clean, well renovated, parking is free in nearby lot. Ushers are helpful, but it simply takes a long time to twist us all in. Airplanes board quicker. The bar is gorgeous, service swift, and efficient. Intermission is too short, but even in the Majestic, it's too short."
"Beautiful theatre in a historic area. Great bar offering non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages that overlooks the river from above. Performances are top-tier, featuring the best cast! Went to see Summer Stock, definitely recommend this show!!!"
"A gorgeous old building, located on beautifully kept grounds overlooking a picturesque section of the Connecticut river. The building has been restored to it's original furnishings, including the handsome bar area where you can get drink and enjoy it on the balcony overlooking the river. The bar serves drinks that have been crafted to reflect the times / themes / place of the marquee show, allowing you to enjoy the experience with all your senses. We saw the show Summerstock, apt in the fact that the area in which it was played is similar to the story itself. The singing and dancing was incredible, and the show starred award winning Broadway actors. We drove over an hour to the venue, and it was completely worth the drive. Highly recommended."
"Enjoyed a showing of “Gypsy” and can’t wait to go back! This small, historical, quaint little opera house sits along the Connecticut river, which is an excellent view of the swing bridge and river. The opera house is clean with a lounge and a bar area, small opera seating area, but just enough to feel like you were inside the play itself. The only negative I would give; unless you purchase a drink for the intermission, you have SLIM chance of sitting along the balcony to view outside/sunset. Pre purchased drinks for intermission are set on tables instead of being on bar. Walking outside would be the only option"
