Reviews of The Mitchell Apartments
"Like many others here I've never left an online review for anything before. While the building presents a positive facade, we've experienced consistent issues with fire alarms, noise, parking, amenities, and elevator reliability over the past year. For a new luxury building in White Plains (with rent prices to match) you'd expect better but it's evident that construction was rushed and the building was not truly ready for tenants when it opened. To start, I cannot stress how disruptive the fire alarms are, especially if you work from home or sleep. This week the fire alarm went off three times in the span of two days alone due to a fault with the sprinkler system. On one particularly bad night a few months ago the fire alarm went off four times between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. due to a water leak in the elevator shafts. There are countless other examples, and the explanations from the management team are seemingly endless. It's apparent most tenants no longer leave their apartments when the alarms go off. Second, the walls and floors offer little noise insulation. If you have neighbors with pets you'll hear them playing with toys from the unit above, or their barking from several units down the hall. We can regularly hear other tenants sneeze as well as trash falling down the garbage chute. In the summer months music from nearby restaurants and bars can be heard clearly even with the windows closed. When other tenants have conversations in the hallways at regular speaking volumes you'll have no problem hearing them. I'll finish with some honorable mentions. The spots in the parking garage are comically narrow and the gate used to prevent non-tenants from parking in the garage was broken for several months. The elevators are constantly out of service which means you'll spend several minutes waiting for one that actually works. The pool, a major selling point in choosing the building, never opened due to permitting issues. Prospective tenants should strongly consider the feedback from existing tenants in these reviews before committing to a lease."
"This building itself is beautiful but it really has an alarm problem. The alarm goes off at any time of the day- it could be 3AM, 7AM or even 4PM. and it goes off for a WHILE! I work from home and it disrupts me and my meetings. It disrupts my sleep and just puts me in a really bad mood because why does it take so long to stop?!? Also, the elevators are never working. I’ve had to go up 12 flights of stairs on a hot summer day because both elevators from the main building were shut off. It’s obvious, I am not the only one who feels a certain way but please do better in taking action as soon as possible. It is currently 8:05 AM and the alarm has been going off for almost an hour. This is ridiculous!!"
"I have never left a review of any apartment or restaurant in my entire life. However, the Mitchell is such a poorly managed apartment complex, I believe it warrants the time and energy I am giving to this well-deserved one star assessment. Where to begin? To start, the Mitchell charges close to $3,400 a month to live in a one bedroom apartment in White Plains. Surely this must guarantee white glove service at every corner? No - not quite. Do you like fire alarms regularly going off at 3AM? If so, this place might be the spot for you. On top of that, you get elevators that are down every. single. day. Imagine paying a premium to live in a 10 story walk-up! To top it all off, you get paper thin walls, a horribly constructed parking garage, and an unresponsive management team. The building also sold us on the promise of a beautiful outdoor pool for the summer. However, just before Labor Day weekend, we were informed that the pool would be closed for the entire summer because the building failed to clear the related regulatory requirements. We were also mislead by our agent about building noise - there is a TON of loud restaurants and clubs within earshot that we hear all night. After all that, you’d expect a rent reduction or at the very least the same rent. However, the folks at the Mitchell believe raising rent is warranted, despite all of these flaws. The Mitchell is a beautiful, new complex, but I have NEVER seen a building so poorly managed. It’s truly a shame."
"I am writing this review at 4am because the "lobby" music in the building is so loud, it woke me up. This issue has been brought up multiple times with management. The walls are paper thin and I can hear the neighbors every move. The parking here is a disaster. We were lied to and deceived. It says in our lease that we were allowed to have 2 parking spaces per unit and when my boyfriend brought his truck up from NC we had to fight tooth and nail to get a second spot. They said we were only allowed one spot and we had to provide an application from White Plains stating we could not apply for on street parking because we are not NY residents in order to get a second spot. Mind you we have "reserved" spots that get taken without consequence. We are also being charged double the amount our contract states for parking and they refuse to do anything about this. In order to to reach management you have to go to the office and the lack of communication is unprofessional. The pool was never opened and they changed their 24 hour gym hours to 5am-11pm because the weights dropping where too loud for residents. Yes, there is a gym still open 24 hours, but it is smaller than my apartment. Security is terrible. A HOMELESS MAN GOT INTO OUR APARTMENT. They would not provide an answer as to how he got into the building itself. We are understanding people. We understand things happen, but not having an answer, being lied to an deceived, and not being updated on situations is frustrating and unprofessional."
"Don’t move into this building!! Everything seemed great after the tour with the leasing agent. We were given a lot of promises that were not upheld by management. Pros: - Apartment life team is super nice and the events they hold are cool - dog park Cons: - overpriced - The leasing office and management are the same. It is almost impossible to get in touch with them. I have sent numerous emails with no response and calling rarely works. You have to go to their office to ever talk to someone - worst parking garage I’ve ever seen. It is very small/tight, two cars can barely fit past each other. The gate doesn’t work half the time. People can park in your reserved spot with no consequence. - Walls are paper thin. I can hear my neighbors alarm going off at 3AM and can hear their conversations - Had a leak in our ceiling for a month. The first time maintenance came they just stuffed some towels to soak up the water. Took forever and constantly calling to get anyone to actually fix the problem. - if your apartment faces E post rd and you live above the parking lot entrance, be prepared to be woken up around 730 AM almost every morning when the garbage truck comes - Who knows when the pool will open, only offered $60 off for the months it wasn’t open - fire alarm is constantly going off, happens at 2AM sometimes - I get notifications that my packages are delivered by the courier service but it never gets logged in so you don’t know where they are. - If someone doesn’t clean up after their dog in the hallways, management takes hours to clean it up - The elevator key fob requirement is never enforced, anyone can just come up - The ‘emergency’ maintenance service number just sends you to a call center to create a ticket. Takes 3 or 4 calls to the concierge for someone to actually come"
