"Dr. McIsaac tried to prescribe my cat gabapentin for her gastrointestinal issues "because she's in pain." I'm a nurse and I know that gabapentin can have serious (even dangerous) withdrawal effects in humans. I told her I wanted to address the underlying digestive issues rather than giving her a heavy pain medication as a band-aid solution. Dr. McIsaac was then very condescending and told me that it was a "quality of life issue" to not give her gabapentin. I countered that she's an impossible cat to medicate and shoving pills down her throat daily is also a quality of life issue. Dr. McIsaac offered no alternative pain medications or treatments. I never went back. After one week on a proper diet, my cat was back to herself. No medication needed. I'd assume many other animals that go to this veterinarian are overmedicated based on my experience. Don't expect her to treat you kindly if you want a plan other than what she's recommending either."
