Reviews of Knollwood Apartments
"Management was super helpful in the application process. Gabe helped me throughout and answered all my questions very quickly. The place was not clean upon the move-in date according to my roommate, and when I got there myself a couple days later the bathroom needed some more deep cleaning. Otherwise, my apartment is super cute and is in the lower level so it doesn’t get too hot or too cold. Nice size and plenty of cabinets and storage space. My only complaint is the cleaning. There’s 32 units and probably ~60 residents and the management seems small so I understand that it’s hard to keep up with everything. My only suggestion is y’all need more people on your team!! Overall decent place and good management for what it is."
"Not sure what is happening with the management around here but it is not only impossible to get in touch with someone but I have been ghosted in many emails over the last couple months about issues they seem to have no concern with fixing. The electricity bill was never issued last month so they're probably going to group many months of bills to throw at us all at once again (last time this happened I had to drain my entire savings account to pay 6 months worth of electricity). On top of this a good friend of mine made an appointment to tour a unit a few weeks ago and when he showed up there was no one here to give him the tour and they never even attempted to contact my friend about it again. It is a Shame too considering he very much wanted to live here. If you plan on moving in to Knollwood this coming fall, prepare yourself for poor management and many unfixed problems to come. There is a reason many people move out of here after one year of living."
"This place is made for collage kids we lived in another complex for 7! Years until we were kicked out to make way for townhouses when we moved they hired terrible movers who broke our things and they weren’t even professional, when we first saw the the apartment it was disgusting and there is mold on the windows that we have to scrub every week we cleaned for 5+ hours on the first day the fridge was gross so we had to bring our old one! and then we realize that there are oil tanks! In the backyard along with a couch and then they have us take everything off the deck and front steps for “visual” reasons so we can’t even have our plants in the deck or a jack-o-lantern near Halloween but they can ignore the stuff in the woods- ALSO maintnece takes forever and the water has been on and off with led so we spend so much on bottled gallons monthly this place is not worth it but if there is one thing the cabinets are okay"
"The good thing about the place is the location: I would spend 20 minutes waking to my office on campus, and about 15 minutes walking to the grocery store. The area is also reasonably nice: You are basically living in a forest. The staff have been polite and fair with me. What I didn't like: 1. The interior is almost all dark wood, and the windows are on the small side. The result is a dark apartment. This was for a first floor apartment. Maybe second floors are better. 2. In the fall, the apartment was very humid. I could smell mildew, and in some places there was something that looked like mold on the wooden walls. A dehumidifier seems like a must. 3. The rent is high given that power is not included. 4. I was very unhappy with the heating situation. The heating is electric, through the floor. Keeping the thermostat at 70-72F will push your power bill to ~$500/mo in winter. The apartment will not feel warm in the bedrooms. The windows are not well insulated. Bugs find their way in without much difficulty. The entry door does not cover the entry 100%, so cold gets through. 5. Phone signal is very poor. 6. Outside lighting could be improved. 7. The washers and dryers in the laundry room have had problems throughout my stay. And they replaced them at some point. The laundry room is far from most apartments (5-10minutes walk outside). In the last months of my stay, I noticed a willingness to upgrade the facilities in the vacated apartments. I didn't get to experience the upgrades except in the laundry room (though the new machines were not correctly installed at first), but new residents might find better living conditions. Next year I will look for rentals outside Storrs, and I recommend the same to everyone."
"Thank goodness I only lived here for 3 months. It seemed so much longer. The free Wifi just barely works, forget about getting anything useful done. Things are generally in poor repair. The clothes dryers take over an hour to dry the smallest of loads (and lots of quarters) - Knollwood says it's not their problem. My shower had a hole in the bottom leaking water who knows where. I filed a request for maintenance...no reply. I scrubbed down the whole kitchen and bathroom before moving out, and still got charged a large cleaning fee against the deposit. The fixtures haven't been updated since the Nixon administration so the stains should not be my problem. Worst of all, the walls leak. Yes, the air seemed moist but I didn't expect that all my furniture would grow mold! The summer rent is a whole lot more expensive now that I have to replace my furniture. Don't live here! It's not worth it."
