Reviews of Bay State Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Services
"I work in animal rescue so I have been in multiple animal emergency situations. Bay state is always my first choice for emergency care. The staff is kind, compassionate, caring, and they always put the animals well being before all else. My last visit was with 7 kittens needing emergent care and the staff worked around the clock to do everything they could for these struggling babies. They also did everything possible to keep the costs down and they GAVE ME HONEST, straightforward information to help me make informed decisions for my kittens care. Next time you go here remember how hard this staff works and the heartbreak they experience on a regular basis and please show them some grace."
"This facility was incredible with my cat. My cat needed emergency surgery, and all the doctors were so kind, patient and intelligent. I received progress photos daily and two phone calls daily identifying my cat's progress. All the administrative staff helping me from my initial call to check out were also so compassionate. I HIGHLY recommend to anyone in the Providence/South coast area."
"I have had two awesome experiences at Bay State Vet in the past year. My three year old Shepard mix (Briggs) has needed both CCLs operated on (one in May '23 and one in December '23) and I can not recommend Dr. Faulkner Besancon and his team more. They have been nothing but caring, helpful, and supportive through the entire surgical and aftercare process. I am the type of dog parent who sends emails/photos anytime I have a question, and the team always has a quick response time and answers the issue thoroughly, I usually hear back from Dani or Mark who are also amazing - both with Briggs and a stressed dog mom. If you are looking for a surgical team (specifically CCL, since that's all I can speak to) I highly recommend Bay State. I would also like to mention the front desk workers, they are super nice, helpful with billing questions and are very welcoming when you walk through the doors of Bay State."
"I have no words today. Today my family lost our 8 year old Boston Terrier Roxie. We took her in because she was trembling and yelling when we touched her neck, thinking she hurt herself when she fell off the bed. The second we arrived, they took her straight back into the ER at about 2-2:30 yesterday afternoon and came back out 10 mins later saying she went into respiratory distress. We panicked and they had told us that the inserted a breathing tube. We waited in the ER waiting room for another 15 mins before they had told us that she will be staying over night for observation and they were about to wake her up. As of that minute, we had asked if she was okay and they told us, yes, they were waking her up. We proceeded to leave and went home thinking she was in the best care possible. My boyfriend’s mother, my boyfriend and I discussed the expenses and what we were going to do moving forward, which all we could do was hope for the best. They told us they would contact us throughout the night if anything had happened to her. I had called to discuss a possible payment plan and her medical expenses were hefty. We had no problem because we love her, she was my boyfriend’s mother’s baby girl. We paid in full and from 4PM-12AM we heard nothing, believing no call was a good thing. I decided to call to check on her at 12:30AM because we were worried sick and the receptionist I had talked to put me on hold and said and I QUOTE “she’s walking and resting comfortably” I thanked her with a lifted heart and hung up. We were relieved. Not one person had called us through the night to tell us they put her back on oxygen and she was now oxygen dependent until 8AM when they called to tell us their nurse never said she was comfortable and resting but she was suffering and was in so much pain she had to be euthanized. We were shocked and beside ourselves. We rushed to the hospital, all three of us, to say goodbye to our girl. They brought us to an exam room, went over the euthanization papers, after we signed, they brought Roxie to us and you could see the light in her eyes and she had a tube down her throat. We took the time to say goodbye and sat with her to the end. Not one of our questions about what had happened in the 8 hours from when I had called to when they called us, was answered. And the doctor came in the room and discussed MORE PAYMENTS with us as we were waiting for our girl. Never mind the fact we were still IN THE PARKING LOT WHEN THEY CALLED ABOUT MORE PAYMENTS. We are mourning with heavy hearts, wondering what happened throughout the night and we are extremely disappointed. We barely got closure and have no idea what had happened through the night because NO ONE called us. I’ve never had an experience like this before."
