Reviews of Plaza Salon
"When I moved to Ct from NC , I needed a new hair dresser. I read reviews about several places. I liked the reviews on Plaza Salon. Especially Janine ! I have highlights and straight fine hair. I recently moved from Carmel, NY and still go to Janine in Danbury ,Ct My hair has looked it’s best for the year 1/2 I have been going to her !"
"2 significant issues as to why I won’t be returning. #1 customer service & #2 the end result. To preface, I have worked in customer service/ customer facing positions for over 15 years so I get it & have the utmost compassion for those working with the public. That being said, I am genuinely hoping they are able to take & accept honest feedback. I felt the need to write this because frankly the service & end result I received was completely unacceptable for the amount of money that I paid. So #1, the stylist I saw probably had the worst attitude & disposition I have ever experienced at a salon. #2 I paid $250 for a poorly done balayage. You also cannot tell I had anything done. For $250, I was expecting to see (at least) a noticeable color change...otherwise, why bother?? She told me the color would ‘eventually lighten up’ so I wanted to give it time, 2 weeks later & my hair is the same color as before, but now with cheap looking orange highlights coming through. I have gotten better & more careful results from student stylists. I left work early & used PTO for this, but I hit traffic along 84 (it happens). I was courteous though & called the salon AHEAD of my scheduled appt. time to let them know I was running late. I asked them if it was okay if I still came in, and they said yes no problem. Mind you when I arrived, they still had 5 hours left until closing. When the stylist came out I could immediately tell she was not in a good mood, she was not warm or friendly at all. If she was that upset about a customer being late, I would have MUCH rather her told me to come in on different day. It is unethical to allow me to come in, have an attitude, rush the appointment for a lackluster result still charging $250. When I began showing her what I wanted, she quite literally was defensive & combative about it. It was a turn off but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, as we all have bad days but it just got worse. I have been getting my hair highlighted/ balayaged for over 10 years so I know what is realistic & what is not. I then said I wanted to be mindful of my budget, which also (clearly) upset her. She snapped, "Well what price did they tell you?" walking over to look at the prices on the board as if she wasn’t familiar with them? Which was a red flag about how she charges for services. I told her I know balayage costs more, but simply am trying to be aware of cost. She was NOT able to have a discussion with me about price transparency, budget, what different options could cost based on my desired result without a defensive attitude. It is OKAY if a customer wants to discuss what they are paying YOU for. She should 100% be able to have that conversation without an attitude, without acting offended, & with more maturity. She was rough with the foils & barely spoke to me the entire appointment. She did not try to make conversation with me. I tried to lighten the mood but I could tell she was not happy. She didn't lighten up until towards the end & I was still at least hoping for a good result. She had to do a 2nd toner I guess (fine by me) but it basically just took me back to looking like I did when I came in. She should NOT have charged me $250 if she essentially just had to die it back. And then after a couple hours for a $250 color service, she did not even blow dry my hair. I literally walked out with wet hair. She blew dry the front piece so I could 'see' the color, but I didn't even get to see it all blown out to look at it. My guess is she was annoyed I wanted to discuss cost, & she couldn't even bother to tell me that she wasn't going to blow dry my hair. Shameful. Again if she didn't have the time, simply didn't want to do it, I would have much rather her told me. It felt horrible to have just spent $250, $300 total. I still tipped her for her time and labor, being in customer service I didn't feel right not tipping. However due to her disposition, lack of maturity, poor interpersonal & communication skills, & the extremely disappointing end result, I will not be returning."
"I'm being generous by giving 3 stars. I feel this salon has promise if you get the right hair stylist. The front desk is very nice and the salon is neat and clean. I was a walk-in for a trim. The stylist I was given, Nicky I believe, seemed to have an attitude and was obviously not into it since she had an appointment coming in 20 minutes. Never smiled, never checked her work. Wished I hadn't tipped her when I later saw how uneven the trim was. Hey, don't work at a walk-in place if that's how you feel. I would never go back."
"My hair has thinned so much from your products. Terrible. I will never be coming back."
"I've gotten my hair cut at Plaza Salon for YEARS. Literally made trips here since I was 2 years old (I'm 23 now). Jim is the greatest ever. He's very talented, and always gives me an awesome haircut that boosts my confidence! The staff is also all very kind and always make you feel welcomed. Unfortunately inflation has been raising prices a bit, but that's happening everywhere. I've attached a couple photos showing my recent hair cuts. I LOVE IT! Thank you Jim! You're the best! Overall Rating: 11/10"
