"My pup was suddenly limping all over the place while we were traveling from out of state, and didn't seem to be getting better, so I took him to Central Hospital late on a Saturday night. All of the staff were so incredibly helpful, and we were surprisingly in and out in less than two hours, something I very much appreciated. We were given clear instructions, and pain meds that have made my pup much more-comfortable. Dr. Roasa patiently answered my questions, and I felt like we were in very good hands. The fee for an appointment is $180, which felt very reasonable for the care we received, and they were able to email me all documentation necessary for our pet insurance before we left. I hope you never have to experience an emergency vet on a Saturday night, but if you do, highly recommend Central Hospital!"
"If you’re reading this review, and it’s because you are trying to figure out the best and safest place to get your pet care on a night/ weekend/ holiday, I am sorry. I wanted to share my review because I was in that boat just one week ago, and it’s incredibly overwhelming to sort through it all to get to the bottom line: where is the safest, kindest, quickest, and most skilled facility for my fur buddy? I promise you that place is Central Animal Hospital Guilford. When I called my vet the day before Thanksgiving, knowing in my heart my puppy needed serious care, they recommended Central with no hesitation. From the first phone call the receptionist was warm, kind, and reassuring, and had me come right away. Within 5 minutes of arrival the vet tech triaged us, took vital signs, and got my consent for a basic assessment and imaging, along with the cost of said procedures. Within 30 minutes, the wonderful veterinarian Dr. Himsel came out to deliver the diagnosis, and explained in detail the recommended procedure and why it was recommended, as well as alternate non invasive supportive therapy, and outcomes of both. I was also given an estimate of cost, with a range of low to high for both. At no point did I feel pressured, or made to feel bad about my decisions or situation, and all questions were answered with compassion and patience. In our scenario emergency surgery was required, performed by Dr Landsdowne who was again caring, thorough, and supportive. She called after surgery, explained exactly what happened, what to expect, and allowed time for processing. For the next two days, our pup got better and better under the watchful eyes of Dr. Gross, and finally he was able to go home. Throughout the hospitalization the Doctors, Vet Techs (Amy, Caroline, Emmalina, Lauren and Lisa) and staff were phenomenal: keeping us in the loop, calling with updates, and letting us know our sweet boy was doing well. I was overwhelmed and tearful at pick up, and again was treated with compassion and kindness, and went home knowing I was prepared, and had some friendly voices to call if needed (and need them I did!) I will forever be thankful to the staff here for saving my dog’s life, and treating us like we mattered. So why the heck does such an incredible place not have 5 stars?? After reading their pages of reviews I can tell you this is not a reflection of their quality, care or compassion, and simply amounts to the horror of healthcare costs for people and humans. This incredible, life saving, multi day, multi specialty, collaborative care given 24/7 over a holiday weekend…. It was expensive. And truthfully, of course it is! And this is not the fault of this facility, its life in 2023. I hate that everything costs so much, and that times are so difficult right now for so many. I can not imagine how awful it would have been to have to choose between my pets life or death, and my heart grieves for those that have had these situations. So I strongly recommend if you can: get pet insurance. It is worth it, trust me, I now know. Hope this helped someone out there, and thank you again to Central in Guilford, we are indebted to you!"
"We were sent away from another emergency vet and in our state of panic were helped by this clinic instead! And I am so thankful and grateful we were. We had an amazing experience from the the first phone call to when we left. They are very compassionate and truly do care. The front desk receptionist is amazing, fast, understanding, and straight to the point! Perfect for an emergency situation! The nurse that helped us (Morgan) was fun, sweet, kind, and energetic! It made us feel very comfortable giving our puppy over to her. The veterinarian doctor, even while busy still took the time to answer questions and fully explain everything to us! The people In the waiting room even were very friendly and you could tell their spirits had been raised by the amazing help from the staff! I hope to never have to go back to an emergency clinic, but if we have to this will be the first place we go!"
"The staff at the Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine in Guilford, CT was amazing! They were caring and knowledgeable. Don't hesitate to bring your beloved pet there! I know that reviews can be all over the place, so when you're doing a little research and trying to find out if the business is good and is for you, it can be very confusing! Normally, unless a business or service is really awful, I don't feel the need to post anything. It's only when they've done an exceptional job that I feel that a review is necessary. And this review was very necessary! It was on Monday, in the middle of the night, when I had no choice but to bring my sweet dog Molly to the ER at Central Veterinary Hospital. I had never been there before and I really didn't know what to expect. From the minute that I pulled my car up to their front door and Jenna the Nurse/Technician came out to the car and carried Molly inside, I knew that I would be in great hands. Jenna whisked Molly to their emergency room area, where Dr. Krein tended to her needs immediately. It turned out to be a very long night, but continually all through the night until the morning, both Jenna and Dr. Krein updated me with Molly's condition. On Tuesday morning, Dr. Gross took over Molly's care. She was also very caring and she was patient with me as she explained Molly's condition. All three of these staff members showed a true concern for me dog. Unfortunately, on Tuesday afternoon, I had no choice but to say goodbye to my Molly forever. Molly was placed on a sofa and I sat next to her. I'm sure that a lot of you know the heartache of saying goodbye to a beloved pet. As Molly was given the syringe, she immediately drifted to sleep. Dr. Gross sat on the floor and stayed with us until the end."
"Dr. Gross saved my boy, Jagger. We went to the local clinic in New Haven and spent thousands upon thousands of dollars testing him multiple times for everything under the sun that would explain his urinary incontinence. The vets there insisted he likely had a manner of serious, congenital diseases. I then subsequently took him where I took his older brother as he'd had such a good experience with Dr. Gross at this location. Best decision I ever made. He came out three days later a new puppy-he had a UTI and a food allergy. That's it. So I went from believing I'd lose him as a puppy, to taking him here and seeing him diagnosed with two things that aren't serious-at least not if properly treated. It took some time for his kidneys to fully recover based on follow up blood work as he unfortunately had the UTI for two months (do NOT get me started on the local vet in New Haven-not good), but they did recover thanks to Dr. Gross. If you have a sick pet that seems "complicated", for lack of a better word, she is an incredible internist. So thankful my boy is here to continue to spread his joy."
