"Mostly adequate dentist... I think he is confident in his skill to a fault when he won't refer patients to other professionals. I complained of jaw pain at every biannual appointment for years, and since he couldn't feel anything anatomically wrong and I couldn't recreate jaw clicking, he never made a referral or suggested any self treatment. Once my pediatrician finally referred me to a TMJ specialist (Arthur Dean in Groton, highly recommend) and I got helpful treatment there, when I told Dr. Tsai about that THEN he had suggestions (that didn't even make sense based on the clear root cause of my chronic pain and headaches). His hygienist broke off my sister's bonded retainer (wire glued to the back of her teeth - it can happen if you scrape around it), and Dr. Tsai replaced it himself instead of consulting the orthodontic specialist (OASECT, we went to Norwich branch and loved them) who placed it after spending a couple years guiding her teeth to the straight positions. Naturally he didn't do it quite right, it started hurting her and she had to go in to the orthodontist and get it fully replaced. Dr. Tsai will professionally give you a thorough cleaning. I think the only failure of the basic job to keep teeth clean was when I developed cavities only on those molars that most people get sealants on, that somehow had not gotten done on schedule. But the fillings were painless and have lasted for many years at this point. If you need someone who is good at the basics, Dr. Tsai is a fine choice, but if you have more complicated issues and want a dentist who will collaborate with other healthcare providers to optimize your care, consider alternatives."
