Reviews of Baymont by Wyndham Branford/New Haven
"Our stay here, was around 7/1/23 The Lady at the front desk , ( part of her name " Jo") very friendly, and gave us a reasonable price for our stay. Kind ,friendly service - because of this I recommend this place . Thanks Steve"
"We booked here because we were traveling for a wedding. For the price point the stars were comparable to the other hotels in the area and they had a pool and a room big enough to accommodate the 4 of us. I had not read the individual reviews before booking, just the ratings. When we checked in we were given a disgusting room, immediately greeted with the smell of cigarettes. My first thought was that the person who stayed before us must've smoked in the room, and I was worried we would get charged a cleaning fee from the occupant before us. I suggested to my family that we open the windows while we were out for dinner to air out the room before staying, but as we brought our things into the room, the paint peeling from the walls, the disgusting bathroom had a cracked tub, the fridge didn't work or close, and there was a mystery stove in the room with no burners just a strange shell of a stove, we decided this wouldn't work. I prepaid in full a non refundable charge for a better price, but because I prepaid we were more or less stuck here. When walking back to the front desk I noticed all the room door numbers has a no smoking symbol except ours, I didn't think smoking in a hotel was even still allowed. We asked the front desk if there were any non-smoking rooms available, he immediately changed our room and.apologized, it was such an easy fix, but why on earth give anyone that room to begin with? The next room was great, just like the pictures, Incredible. The walls were freshly painted, the room was bright and inviting, the fridge worked, the bathroom was clean, there was no mystery stove. If we had gotten this room first I would not be writing this 1 star review at all, and our experience would have been different. But the illusion of a nice hotel was shattered by that room we all jokingly have renamed the crack room because it was so run down and disturbing. It was a room you would suspect kidnapping occured in or had a two way peeping mirror in. When we came back to the room to relax, before my son and brother would go down and enjoy the pool, I decided to see what the reviews said about this place. Wow. It seems like 2 out of every 3 people have endured the crack room(s) and have had bedbugs, stained sheets and towels, and an overall bad experience. While the other portion got the second room we experienced which is nice and inviting. I observed we were lucky that the pool was open. And that the hotel had different smells for different hallways Went to the pool (other guests came.down as well so it didn't seem like we were the only ones there) for a couple hours I went to use the restroom before heading back to our room for the night. The restroom was clean but it struck me as odd that all the toilet paper rolls were sitting on top of the dispensers, and there were no paper towels, just more toilet paper on top of the paper towel dispenser, and no soap. It wasn't until I picked up the toilet paper rolls in one of the stalls that I saw what looked like blood stains on the side and I immediately knew it was from someone cleaning a needle off from drug use. This is the moment I decided I needed to write this review. That changed our kind of gross kind of funny experience into a dangerous one. Dangerous diseases are spread this way and you are compromising the safety of your guests. The toilet paper in our room was brand new and I let my family know of what I believed now to be a safety risk. I slept grossed out about bed bugs as the reviews mentioned them several times, but we were lucky in ourr new clean room to have avoided that experience. I wish I had taken pictures of the first room to show the comparison as it really would show how different an experience every one is having. Do not compromise your guests safety for any reason, a clean and safe hotel experience really could change a lot of these very bad reviews into good ones with very little effort"
"3 weeks in a row I've been there the 1st stay was great guy at the front desk super nice and informative. Week 2 I saw a tiny bug with long antenna (isolated incident as there were no more), however, getting ready for bed we noticed blood on the blanket and when my husband brought it to the overnight attendants attention it was a bother he was mad about being approached and having to hand out a new set of sheets which we had to remake the bed. No one addressed the issue the next day, only an apology from a different clerk Week 3 they gave us a room that wasn't cleaned upon arrival which upset my husband as we had been driving for hours and just wanted to rest luckily one of the front desk attendance was upstairs quickly moved us to a new room and brought us a new key. Later on in the night my husband went downstairs to ask the attendant (same older man from the week prior) simply asked if there were any ketchup packets/plates we could have as we forgot them and again greeted with a nasty attitude and huffing and puffing, along with rude tones instead of a general response. Otherwise, the king size bed was extremely comfortable, the free breakfast is severely lacking good options especially spending over $100 for 1 night stay......"
"Had to stay here for a quick business trip and had complete mixed feelings. Understand this is a budget hotel- seems like it is family owned, barely anyone staying there, lobby is dingy, no elevator, weird smells throughout the building and hallways, the bed sheets were stained all with yellow dirty stains, I requested a change of sheets for my colleague and the new ones weren't any better, took a shower that night to be mortified by the towels they were all stained and yellow, room was dusty, ceiling in the bathroom was falling apart and it was leaking. Heater/AC unit worked fine, but made me sneeze, probably because of dust, I feel bad leaving this review because the people seemed nice, but this hotel seriously needs some TLC."
"This is a budget hotel with budget upkeep. It appears that carpets and furnishings were brought in from another closed hotel or casino. Check out the floor pattern on the first floor hallway. The rooms have lots of damaged spots on the walls and furniture. The floors in the room are new laminate style floors and wete very clean. The complimentary breakfast is an assortment of breads and cereals. There are two things that are worth expressing satisfaction. The parking lot is very nice and appears to be brand new. The front desk employee (Jojo) was fantastic. I'm not sure when she gets a day off or any time off because we were there for 3 days and 2 nights, and she was always at the desk. She was extremely happy and helpful. We asked about places to eat and things to do, and she was more than happy to point us in the right direction. All of her suggestions were fantastic. This hotel appears to have quite a few people that live there long term. It is evident when you stand in the parking lot and can see large plants and decorations in the windows of the first rooms. Lots of smokers hanging out at the doors all day and night."
