"In der Epoche vor dem Aufzugding war der Turm dieser Kirche das Wahrzeichen Rottweils. Das hochgotische Meisterwerk ist der bedeutendste Bau der Stadt. Eigentlich würde der 70 Meter hohe Turm zu einer Kathedrale passen. Die stark barockisierte Kirche ist im Verhältnis zum Turm jedoch ungewöhnlich klein und eher durchschnittlich."

"Die "Kapellenkirche" (Marä Himmelfahrt) Die Kapellenkirche im gotischen Baustil in Rottweil ist bereits von weitem zu erkennen und gilt ebenfalls zu den Wahrzeichen und Sehenswürdigkeiten Rottweils. Dieser Prunkbau - in erster Linie der Kapellenturm - wurde auf - bzw. über - dem Platz einer kleinen Wallfahrtskapelle (Marienkapelle) erbaut, die im 14 Jhd. erstmals dokumentarisch belegt, vermutlich bereits seit dem 13 Jhd. bestand und auf Höhe des Mathildenmarktes über einer Quelle erbaut wurde, welcher eine scheinbar augenheilende Wirkung nachgesagt wurde. Der quadratische Grundbau wurde 1330 errichtet und Mitte des 15. Jhd. folgte der oktagonale Aufbau, der den Kapellenturm auf eine Höhe von ca. 70m wachsen lies. Der Chor der Kapellenkirche wurde 1476 neu erbaut. Davor bestand der Chor aus einem einstöckigen Langhaus, welches danach (1476) mit einer Zwischenetage (Decke) und zwei oktagonalen Aufbauten erweitert wurden. Alle paar Jahre ist die Kapellenkirche mit Gerüsten versehen, da der benutzte Sandstein der Region sehr stark mit dem "sauren Regen" und der Luftverschmutzung reagierte und ständig erneuert werden musste. Die Steinmetzarbeiten sind - ähnlich wie beim Freiburger Münster - sehr beeindruckend. Manche alte Teile, die bei den Restaurationen ausgebaut und durch neue ersetzt wurden, sind im Museum Lorenzkapelle der Stadt Rottweil zu besichtigen. Der Turm ist ebenfalls an manchen Tagen zu besichtigen."

"“Die gotische Kapellenkirche ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt Rottweil. Erstmals im frühen 14. Jahrhundert belegt, reichen ihre Anfänge vermutlich bis in das 13. Jh. zurück. Die Tradition geht von einer - auf Betreiben der Bürgerschaft errichteten - Marienkapelle aus. Ihr Turm soll auf einer später versiegten Heilquelle für Augenleidende errichtet worden sein. Der Chorneubau wurde seit 1476 geschaffen. Für die Jesuiten, die 1652 nach Rottweil kamen, um das Schulwesen der Stadt wieder zu beleben, war die Kirche stets templum nostrum (unsere Kirche). Sie haben die ihnen überantwortete Kapelle 1727 bis 1733 renoviert„““ Zu besichtigen gibt es hier eine wunderschöne Orgel, grandiose Schnitzereien, Ölgemälde und fantastische Deckenmalereien.
