Welcome to Brian Ave Kindergarten, located at 18 Brian Avenue in Wairoa, New Zealand. Our institution is not just a school, but a point of interest and establishment that prioritizes the unique learning journeys of children.

At Brian Ave Kindergarten, children are given the freedom to lead their own learning through a curriculum that is based on their interests and reflective of the local community. That's why we provide regular excursions to places of local significance, giving children meaningful opportunities to connect with their surroundings.

We also understand the importance of a holistic approach to teaching and learning. By promoting children's wellbeing as a foundation for further learning, we prioritize their social competence and sense of security. Our dedicated staff consistently implement routines and strategies to support children's social development, ensuring they feel a sense of belonging and confidence.

As an institution that values the identities of Māori children, we acknowledge and make connections to individual children's pepeha. We strive to build understanding of kaupapa Māori approaches to teaching and learning, incorporating these principles into our curriculum.

When I had the privilege to visit Wairoa Kindergarten in March 2021, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the surroundings. The garden, with its cleverly designed outdoor learning space and covered area for a cup of coffee, felt like a dream come true. It reminded me of the best early childhood education and primary school facilities I have seen across the country. Wairoa Kindergarten is truly a "Hope Spot" where teachers and students explore the wonders of our planet and foster generosity, collaboration, and respect.
