Appliance Check
About the Business
Welcome to Appliance Check, the leading establishment for portable appliance testing in New Zealand. Located at 8 Ings Avenue, Dunedin, our nationwide team of experienced technicians is ready to provide you with top-quality service.
Since 2003, we have conducted over 4 million Portable Appliance Tests (PAT) to meet the Electrical Standard AS/NZS 3760. Our expertise lies in catering to various sectors, including schools, tertiary institutes, industrial labs, hospitality, and city council buildings.
Annual testing is mandatory by law and must be performed by an Electrical Inspector. At Appliance Check, we meticulously inspect the plug, cable, and appliance to ensure they are in good working order and free from any damage that could lead to access to live parts. We conduct a range of tests, including polarity, earth continuity, insulation resistance, and earth leakage tests.
Each appliance that passes our testing is labeled with a barcode ID, test and re-test date for easy identification. In case an appliance fails testing, we attach a "do not use" tag and report it accordingly. We provide different tags to suit various work environments.
To maintain a comprehensive record, we compile a register of all equipment tested, detailing the names and number of appliances, their locations, the number of failed items, and recommended re-test dates. This register can also serve as an asset register for your convenience.
While testing is not a legal requirement, it is essential to ensure a safe workplace. In the event of an accident, authorities may pursue legal action if proper testing procedures were not followed. At Appliance Check, we prioritize your safety and strive to provide a secure environment for all.
Our electrical safety testing process begins with a thorough visual inspection of each appliance by our expert technicians. This inspection helps identify any visible damage and determine its potential cause. Following this, our technicians conduct and compile the results of a portable appliance testing tool run, providing you with documented evidence of the appliance's condition.
It is crucial to note that all electrical safety tests should be carried out by a trained Electrical Appliance Technician. Government guidelines recommend testing building, construction, and demolition tools every 3 months. Equipment in engineering shops and harsh environments should be tested every 6 months, while hospitality establishments such as motels, hotels, and hostels require testing every 2 years. Office equipment, such as computers, should be tested every 5 years.
At Appliance Check, we cater to a wide range of businesses across different sectors, including hospitality, laboratories, and offices. Our commitment to providing top-quality service and ensuring your safety sets us apart as the premier choice for portable appliance testing in New Zealand.
